S5 Body: NA vs turbo
this may sounds like a stupid new newby question but I have been asking myself for a few year this question. What are the body difference between the Turbo an NA S5.
-Rear wing looks more backyard on the turbo (unsure, maybe I'm confuse with the S4?) -Front fender (actually, when looking at NA pics, looks like its mising something. Also, Victoria British has a number for NA and turbo S5... what is the difference here?) -Turbo has side skirts? -GXL and Turbo has cool mirors. -ok... obiviously the T2 hood and rims anything else? what about the rear fenders? |

hey icemark, do you have one of those factory brochure things (that have the specs for the different models) for an S5?
|
hum... so its a 5 pieces wrap-around?
thanks for the info |

besides not having a turbo what are other differences? suspension? transmission? etc.
luigi seriously i don't know, i'm a 3rd gen owner looking for a s5. even willing to trade my 3rd gen for one. |

Radiator Is bigger?...I didn't know that.

thinking of it simply because i can't see myself driving a stripped fd, but i can with a fc. i want to use the car mainly for track use and when i'm in the fd i think, i want to add a body kit kit, add go fast parts, and have a nice system. alot of people told me to keep the car and just take your time, but i have been abused by my wife, friends and family into thinking that whats the point of having a car that you can't drive. i feel i can get more done with the fc than i can with the fd simply because i will be more focused on one objection than multiple.
if this made no sense to some of you feel free to flame, i know you will. and i don't mean this to be offensive to any fc owner (as if your car was only good for track use). i actually brought my fd because i was interested in rotary engines and the 3rd gen is all i knew. i was given an opportunity to hold a fc for a couple of days (and it was n/a s5) and i actually liked coming out of the house and seeing it and driving it. it felt more comfortable (not just room or interior wise, but over all). so if anyone knows any s5 t2 owners that are willing to trade and add cash i willing. luigi |

What about suspension? And my 1991 na has side skirts from the factory.

well the T2 and NA use the same exact P/N radiator, in fact the only different radiator is the one used with a auto tranny.
I would assume the minor (1.4 L) extra coolant would be the coolant lines for the turbo itself. |

Well I suspect the real reason is that Mazda made a mistake in the 87+ specs, since when the T2 engine came out Mazda relocated the overflow coolant bottle, with a bigger bottle in a different location. Could be they never updated the specs books to reflect that on the NA, even though the NA got that bigger and relocated overflow bottle.
If you check the 87 T2 suppliment (Mazda P/N 9999-95-024B-87, page 3-3), you see that Mazda says that the only differences and non-interchangeable parts between a Turbo and Non-turbo in the cooling system is the water pump and the water return pipe for the turbo. So any other capacity changes would be in the motor itself. The fact that there is no P/N for a different Turbo radiator, agrees with either statment. |
