The price of the top is way cheaper. I am suprised that this thread made it this far without anybody bringing up the source that's been used by forum members for a couple of years. $259 vs 700+

Too many negative comments on aabestco, primarily on proper fit. Lots of positive comments on the Robbins, but it does cost more. At least thats what I concluded in the search.

jhammons01 06-15-05 10:54 PM

This thread sounds like an infomertial for RX7world tops. I have been researching tops from aabestco for a year now and I have not heard bad comments.

aabestco does sell tops rather cheaply, and I like the choice of materials & colors offered. But you have to take into account the labor necessary here, the lions share of the work is already done for you, as well as the internal structure of the top getting proper refurbishing as well. aabestco sends you a top in the box, it's all on you.

If you are handy, and want more choices in top material/color, def go with aabestco. If you are less of a diy person, and don't mind the stock vinyl, then go rx7world.

I just wanna know if ernst will but my aabestco top (in stayfast canvas) on a rebuilt frame for me :D Best of both worlds!

you guys and your silly verts hehe, they really should make a decent hard top for that damn things, but then you'd be entering my territory, sorta.

Hey static - wanna race? My car may be "fat and weighing in at over 3000lbs", but it'll still spank a GXL. :D Thanks for the useful input into the thread.

Not criticizing, but is what you said considered a Negative comment?? I don't think it does. But then, I am all about DIY.

Me, I'd rather save the money and just get the material needed.

pianoprodigy 06-16-05 10:17 AM

I had a Robbins top installed on my FC over a year ago. I'm thinking that the top, headliner, and installation cost somewhere around $1200.

89droptoprx7 06-16-05 01:09 PM

robbins does make a great top, but i'd put rx7world's up there with it. Maybe i need to get a commission on these deals. hell. i'll call right now .... nope no commissions. :bigthumb: but hey it's a good top and they do answer all my questions. They use to be a one man show but now they got like 3-4 people working over there. :bigthumb:

I am not really sure what my vert weights with me in it and a full tank of gas. Next time I am around a truck weight in on the highway I will stop and see. Its not really worth the fight for a 400lbs difference. Once you turbo a vert you have the best of both worlds. You have the better handling, and now you have a easy upgrade turbo setup to get you 350-450 rwhp without a whole lot of problems. And all this with the top down. With large rear wheel numbers and double the torgue of a stock t2 you will soon forget about the extra couple of pounds. But then again I didn't buy a rx7 because it was a light overpowered car. I bought it because it was fun. Some people think a car that weights 2600lbs and has 160-200rwhp is a fast car. Its not.

topless7 06-16-05 09:16 PM

I've got the top off mine and a new one ready to put on, but I'm hesitant because I don't want to screw it up. If the bolt on option can be done cost effectively by somone that knows the car, It would be well worth the money. These tops do not fit as easy as you think they would. Especially if you get a cheaper aftermarket version.

what kind of turbo are you running to make those kind of rwhp figures?

Bukwild 06-17-05 07:20 AM

I have a custom turbo from Precision turbo on the way. I do have a borg warner s-200 with a 1.15 backside that will lay down high 300's at 15lbs at the house but I decided to get a larger turbo. About any full t04 will get you into the 300's and up.

I am interested in getting into a group price...

However I was able to locate a company that has the German Cloth or American Stayfast version for under $600.00 ... I just have to log on at my home puter as I have the link saved to my favorites..

I will follow up with this thread and I would like for others to do the same so we can get a group price as well.. I am the guy who founded the Miami RX7 Club and also produce the Lambo Vertical Doors for the 2nd Gen...

I am also having someone out here in Miami reproduce the convertible boot cover in German Cloth as well... so keep in touch for future updates.

No negativity here. Just pointing out the difference in cost and justifying the extra cost of the rx7world top.

Zonder- keep us posted about the repro tops- I want german cloth next go round- as soon as my driver's side corner heat seam finishes splitting :D

myexlex 06-18-05 10:47 AM

so is it hard to replace just the vinyl part? I believve that 700 is fair price. you get the head liner brandnew and everything else.

MidnightOwl 06-18-05 03:15 PM

I'd pay $1000 for someone to put a top on my car, it was a WHORE and a half to replace that damn thing. I got the AAbestco top, and it didn't fit quite right and it was a complete bitch to put on. The only instruction I had to put it on was a write-up someone did a while back on his vert. I'm all about DIY, but when it comes to convertible tops, I give up that stuff is beyond my grasp. TII swap? No problem. Convertible top? Hell no.
