Rx7 S4 Bad idle
Hey guys
im new here and also new with the rotarys as well but always up for a challange. My mate just bought Rx7 S4 got a bad idle and smoked like CRAZY what was the stuffed turbo so we fitted a new turbo and got the car running and now we got this problem. is idels at 1200rpm, rock side to side like crazy(we just replaced both engine mounts and noticed it) is smokes slightly but when i pick the revs up to about 2000rpm it smooth as and when you go for a spin around the block it drive very well except for when we stopped and car went back to idle. ( it has SHIT LOAD OF POWER HEHEEHEHE brakes traction at 80km with ease) had a quick look around for intake leaks and found the air bypass control leaking a bit so we resealed that. Car has new NGK rotary plugs(from rotary shop), new leads, new vacuum lines, fuel filter, oil filter, oil It also running a microtech MT-8 Here's a clip i have posted on you tube for people to look at. Also the engine is warmed up not cold(you think the engine ganna bounce out at cold) Thx Jason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28SY9H3eRbw |
we warmed up the car and went for a spin around the block again today and got back idle was choppy and started to play up and you softly try to increase rpm and you would get a bit of black smoke.
i think it could be a shit tune whats your thoughts? |
sound like it. a small vac leak would raise the rpms a bit but black smoke is to much fuel. and does that smoke go away after a while or not. also what color is it
|
the smoke when it idleing after a drive is blue(oil) when it aint flooding(black smoke).
you rev engine and there is no smoke at all over 1500rpm nice and clear just at idle is smokes blue and black ill give it another look for a vacuum leak but i couldn't see one |
it sounds like to much fuel at idle which can effect the rpms black smoke is unburnt fuel. imo its running rich
|
yer thats what i thought
also before we went of the second trip around the block we had problem with the car wouldn't start with the NGK rotary plugs so we removed them and went with the old bosch and it started within 2 seconds of cranking. i tested the plugs againest a earth and one of the new plugs seemed a bit week so i tryed it on diff coil pack and problem followed the plug. Just out of interest what do you guys run for spark plugs and what gaps if there is thx jason |
ONLY NGK plugs for rotary which are gapped correctly right out of the box. Double check that your vacuum hoses are routed properly via the service manual. Often the vacuum hose "spider" underneath the UIM will split and cause a vac leak. If the mixture is found to be too rich, suspect the coolant temp sensor, AFM, leaking fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. This might also help:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...idle+diagnosis After you have found and fixed the idle, if you still have blue smoke, suspect the turbo shaft seals or oil control ring seals on the rotors (engine rebuild). |
yeah NGK only for sure. the only reason the bosch ones started up right away is because your NGKs were probably old.
|
The NGK plugs are the new ones and it wont start up on them now. the boach plugs are the old ones and run on them just it got a slight miss allround but when and if you do get it running on the new NGK's it dont have the miss but the just out right stubborn things.
we removed the top mount today and replaced most vacumm lines there rock hard solid but none i could see any visiable cracks but safe to replace then be sorry. We tested the solinoids on the vacuum system and they appear to be ok but we found the purge control valve to have a split in the side of it so ill get a new one of them. and were going to grab a cable from computer shop to hook up laptop to microtech and just lean out idel fuel mixture a slight bit and give all the sensors a good check over. I don't know if it the turbo causing the blue smoke i suspect the oil metering pump. are they easy and cheap thing to reco? or expensive and ass of a job? |
Id like to update this forum to NOT RUNNING!!!!!!
we removed the upper instake manifold during the week and replaced each vacuum line 1 by 1 so we didn't mix anything up and even replaced brake booster line, checked oil feed injectors and got the injectors cleaned by injector cleaner van and replaced all fuel lines and everything thing new under the manifold the only gasket that hasn't been replaced is the gasket between the engine and the intake manifold. i also applyed a bit of vasaline to the top and bottem of injector to easy install and better seal. i removed the spark plugs cranked car to prime injectors and removed the injection computer fuse and cranked the car for 20 seconds intill engine was dry of fuel no mist came from plug holes and refitted the new NGK plugs(only been in car around the block 3 times) and tryed to start the car and it bearly even fired up so i stop cranking and removed plugs and fuse and cranked for another 20 seconds to get rid of the raw fuel and fitted the old Boash super plugs and put leads and fuse back in and started cranking and it started to run on it own for about 5 seconds and stalled in it tracks and refused to even fire up like the NGK plugs... Anyone got any idea and don't say vacuum leak cause basicly everything is NEW!!!!! i so beleave it this stupid microtech and it super rich fuel mixture killing it anyone got some suggestions anything really will be apprecshiated right now |
