Take the exhaust manifold off and have a look at what she looks like inside.

i doubt his engine is that severe....i doubt that engine would even turn over if that bad.. rotors rust pretty easy in open atmosphere, the plating on the housing might ok i've never seen one rust. The endplates can be resurfaced. don't give up till you find out the extent of rust. might be able to get away with new rotors and lapped plates, escpecially if it turns over easily. Whatever you do don't crank the anymore odds are you score the housings rendering them worthless

Why would you lap plates when you can find hundreds of perfectly useable ones from other cores? The s4 NA is the most common rotary in north america these days, there is no lack of used engines and cores in useable condition. I wouldn't worry about this one.

Also, if the rotors rust, the irons will to.

A customer of mine bought a core from a guy on this forum and shipped it here to use as a rebuild core...the seller told him it turned over freely. It was in worse condition than the one pictured above. Yes, with a big enough breaker bar, you can make a rusted motor turn. Still doesnt make any of the parts useable...

hey i was trying to be optimistic. hehe oh well.

well im going to get started dismantleing this bad boy sometime next week or so. if i get any interesting pics ill be sure to post. and i got the pics of the spark plugs to put up whenever i get the time to get them on my computer. maybe tomarrow.

That's way messed up, massive MASSIVE corrosion! I'd tear that engine out as soon as possible!

Uh, that motor is gone.

The milky jelly stuff is aluminum oxide - this is what it looks like when aluminum rusts.
Aluminum oxide is actually a "sand", but when mixed with coolant it turns into a jelly.

That motor has had no maintenance or it has been sitting around for like 10 years.

thanks for the anwser to that question. oh well...the motor is totally dead. no biggie....i bought it with that in mind anyway. a 300 buck shell. im sure people wanna know what on the inside of this sucker anyway so ill continue to dismantle it and snap the pics. after all its a learning tool now. and a place i can get a bunch of bolts....lol. water pump isnt too bad tho....maybe i can save it from death. hopefully other parts arent too bad either. i already have like a half rx7 as spare parts whats a little more right....lol.
