rusty spark plugs?
anyone know what would cause spark plugs to rust? i just pulled mine out and they were wet with gas and rusty....and i have not drivin the car. i just bought it a few days ago with a maybe dead motor. any ideas? tomarrow morning im compression testin it. thanx for any help.

We need more details. Has the engine/car sat for a while? does it run now? Stuff like that. Rust is caused by oxidation....a material can oxadize in any enviroment for a number of reasons. It's the least of your worries.

GET NEW SPARK PLUGS
Over the next several weeks, check the spark plugs at least once a week. If it's gets rusty, it's bad news. If they don't get rust, breathe a sigh of relief. -Ted |

there is a difference between dirty plugs and rusty plugs right? with my last set, i cleaned them off with a brass brush, and the metal still wasnt shiny like is supposed to be.
|
If the PLUGS are rusty, I'd worry about the ROTOR. It would rust before the plugs, IMHO (o)_(o)

They will also rust if your plug wires/boots are in bad condition and your motor got wet on that side, if it runs without smoke and smell of antifreeze then you should be okay, just get a new set of plugs and wires, usally aways a good idea when buying a used Rex

well i changed the plug but i dont think that will do any good cuz i just finished the compression test....0 and 30. so im guessin dead motor. oh well. i was going to put a new one in anyway. this just kinda shows i gotta now. oh and the car was sittin around for over 5 months. so now is the question...rebuild or new motor all together?
|
you did do the test the right way right? remove check valve and whatnot?
i take it the car wont start either? |

car wont start worth a damn but i know its gettin fuel....i can smell that one. not sure bout the spark but i did put new plugs. and the compression test shows nothing so im guessin that it. well i didnt remove the valve but i did leave the push button pushed in. you think that would be the reason? i followed the instrutions on the website.... www.rotaryresurrection.com

oh i mean....do you think cuz i didnt rip out the internals of the compression tester it didnt come out right? cuz i held on to the pressure release valve so i could see it bounce and all.
|
Dude, if there is rust inside the motor, I SERIOUSLY doubt you can rebiuld it.
The internals are probably trashed. |
New motor the rotor with 0 compression is bad. Check the junk yards and there may still be some good parts in the one with 30 take it apart and sell it .
|
u think someone would take the motor as a core? but yea i think ill part it out. i mean i kinda wanna see what it looks like inside after what i saw. lol. if i do take it apart ill be sure to post the pictures....im sure they will be worth a laugh or two.

Your internals probably look like this:

i bet it does.....poor me. ok now im the guy that emailed you before....not that you would remember me exactly but....would you take something like that as a core?
|
Ouch.
|
Man, leave it to kevin to make us rotor heads sick.... :puke:
