Rtek7 2.1 .~VS~. Mega Squirt V3???

So I'm on the Market for a ECU, I have landed on two choices Rtek7 v2.1 and the Mega squirt v3?

So which one is better?

Pros and cons?

(note: I'm looking for about 300whp with 720cc injectors BNR stage 3 turbo and a front mount intercooler, it that realistic with these two?)

I would love some insight from Owners of one of these two ECUs. thanks!

Really, you're comparing 2 different animals. The Megasquirt is a full standalone and the RTek is a chip installed in the stock ECU that allows adjustments to the stock settings. I've never used either, but from the research I've done, I think the RTek would be all you need for your planned setup.

Yea I know that they are different, I guess my question is... Does all the headache that goes into making the megasquirt work, worth the end result? Or would I be able to do a good amount with the easier to use Rtek?

If you're comfortable assembling an entire ECU yourself and tuning it all yourself, I'd probably go for the Megasquirt. It gives you full control over all engine parameters and leaves you more room to grow in the future, in case you want to get a bigger turbo or radically ported motor or something.

If you don't have a local tuner that does megasquirt and don't want to take the time (lots) to learn how to do it yourself, you'll probably want to stick with the rtek.

there is way less driveability tuning for the rtek

Why is that arghx? Is it because the ms you can adjust timing, spark fuel and all and the rtek is based on the stock map and limited as to what you can adjust?

With the RTek, you make adjustments to the pre-existing stock maps, but with the MS you need to create all the maps from scratch.

There are a gazillion little time consuming things you have to adjust on a standalone that have no effect on power output or response

For 300 whp, I don't think you need a stage 3, a stage 1 or 2 will get you there, with less lag to boot.

For 300 whp, an Rtek will get you there for cheaper.

the Rtek has a lot of things going its way

1. its in the car!

2. since it starts with the stock map, you just tweak it

3. stock ecu based means it wont have weird ignition/trigger issues.

the cons against the Rtek are basically that its 8 bit vs whatever the MS is, so its slower

there are lots of people who have had good results with the MS, but since its DYI there are also people with weird problems. it also doesn't do things like sequential fuel injection, it doesnt have a lot of load points, etc etc.... its also not cheap if you buy a prebuilt one.

okay, thank you!

If you have the time to learn. MS will force you to learn info about engine management that will be valuable the rest of your life.
