but they are still engineered for RHD

meaning they still have the steering column next to the turbo and the MBC and pump and etc next to the turbo and they still have to shift with the left hand

obviously it DOESNT matter and theyre not STUPID because in other countries it IS this way.....and it was DESIGNED there.....how can that be STUPID....its perfectly normal and fine

How stupid to go through so much work to make your car the way you want! I mean, I was watching these idiots on TV, they went through all this work CUTTING THE ROUGH OFF A CLASSIC CAR just to make a few inches of difference, JUST TO LOOK THE WAY THEY WANTED!!! Haha! What idiots!!! And they took apart the whole thing to paint it, when they could've just left it together!

My point is, why flame somebody for wanting their car to look a certain way. Yeah, it may be a waste of money to you, but if I want diamond encrusted rims, it may be worth it to me.

Fritz_X 05-04-04 12:09 PM

Na man, you get diamond encrusted rims and I will jack 'em and wear em as bling bling, true gansta y0!1!1!!

Here is an idea:

Sell your 17 yr old car to some ricer. Get 2000$ for it. Save up for the next 3 years. When you graduate from highschool, go to college. After this, use your 2000$ plus, to buy yourself a plane ticket and put down a down payment on a new apartment in Okinawa or someplace. Now teach English by immersion, in a Japanese high school. Use your 20k salary to buy someone's used FC drifter for 3k. Live in Japan till you get bored of not seeing your family/friends/girlfriend/boyfriend/preacher/mailman. Sell your used, used drift FC that has been put through more pain, then a gay midget's butthole, to buy yourself a plane ticket back home. Spend the rest of your days laughing, at how foolish you were in your youth...

shit...lol...i toatally never read what i typed in....lol....im an idiot ..i dont wanna JUST do that...lol when i said budget i meant like total buget i would spend on the car jsut a guess i plan on doing sumthing like this later....i already have plans to hook up the T2 and get a suspention kit all around so yea lol.....sorry everyone working from inside out engine and then do sumthing

how smart is that.....buy a stock t2 then rhd it.....yea....pointless indeed i should have proof read my first post too bad none of you guys pointed out the whoole thing in the begining i would have clarifide....well thanks now....

BTW how much wat the whole project???

TurboII RudeBoy 05-04-04 04:42 PM

Ok people keep saying it's a waste of money, if you do alot of the work urself like most rx7 owners well 1st gen and 2nd gen owners anyways.the most expensive part is buying the firewall n dash n rack.i see people on this forum buying turbo kits and rims that are worth more than their cars, but the car still looks dated and in sum cases like a rust bucket.why not be happy with the way the car looks and be diffrent.Horsepower isnt everything as you can tell by the die hard n/a fans on this board.people need to stop flaming on this website and appriciate not hate all the time.o and to whoever interested over the summer or towards august i'm going to be selling jap driver side firewalls, so the rhd conversion is a bolt in process after you weld the fw in.
O another point i never did this for that stupid JDM craze that seems to be sweeping the nation.and about tolls ok the human body can move around thats why we can do sumthin called "lean over to the left side"

Do you know anything about engineering? Just because something was "engineered" doesn't mean it's any good. Engineering can be defned as "doing with limited time and resources what any idiot can do with both unlimited" Everything in engineering is a compromise. EVERYTHING. In the case of the RHD car, there is a compromise in the human factors (have to shift with left hand) and a compromise in the engine compartment (turbo in the way of steering, things that shouldn't be near hot things near hot things)

NZConvertible 05-04-04 05:18 PM

I missed this one...

My FC is RHD, and I can assure you that it looks and feels no more "Japanese" than your car. And there's nothing "Japanese" about RHD anyway. You might as well say you're doing it for the "NZ feel and look", because it would make just as little sense.

Sorry man, but I doubt many will believe you on that point. ;)

I think you're missing one very important point. The FC (and many, many other cars) was designed from a clean sheet of paper to be made in both RHD and LHD. Both arrangements were accommodated in the design. The Japanese aren't exactly going to design the perfect car for you guys and then butcher it to sell it at home are they? Many cars are designed with the steering and braking systems on the hot side of the engine bay. Proper engineering ensures this isn't a problem.

I still think a conversion is stupid, but not because RHD is somehow "wrong".

Gene 05-04-04 05:38 PM

Just like proper "engineering" gave us cold solder joints in our ECU, leaky ABS pump, non-functioning wiper switches and a rear suspension that can't be adjusted for independent camber? (or any camber for that matter without an aftermarket bit)

NZConvertible 05-04-04 06:13 PM

Well I can assure you that unless you’re hanging a monster turbo off the side of the engine, it's simply not a problem. Tens of thousands of RHD rotary turbos (not to mention hundreds of thousands other similarly configured cars) are proof of this.

And how many affordable 80's sport cars have rear suspension with adjustable camber. Jeez, lets be realistic...

Rotary Racer 05-04-04 06:37 PM

I am just going to sound like a broken record so I will be short. For the amount of money your going to spend on something that literally will do nothing for you its not worth it. Spend that money on a built motor and a stand alone and call it a day.

- Dana “ahhh JDM…if everyone jumps off a bridge will you? :)”

Josepi 05-04-04 08:58 PM

If you got the money and you're bored, go for it.

I'm not here to say how you spend your money. :)

TurboII RudeBoy 05-05-04 01:08 AM

yea i paid 200 for my steering rack n dash board, let's see how many built motors and standalones i can get for that. also i was born in the islands i feel more comfortable driving a rhd car it's my prefrence, and yes i again agree with you the whole jdm craze is stupidness.
