Reverse lockout spring and Cowl protector replacement ideas?
 

Hey everyone,

Was wondering if anyone has been able to find a good replacement for a couple part numbers, first being 0824-17-483, it's the spring that goes in the back of the shifter housing (manual transmission) it's not the actual reverse lockout block but the bigger 19mm bolt on the very back that has the ball and spring packed inside. Apparently there are only like 3 left in the country so i'm not exactly sure i'll be getting my hands on one. (I'm hopeful).

The other is the Protector Cowl, Grill FB01-50-792. this is the black rubber that goes between the cowl and the windshield, this part has been discontinued by Mazda, no real shock there.

Again just wondering if anyone has found or designed something to replace these parts.

I don't see why you wouldn't get that spring, if Mazda shows stock. I doubt they're gonna disappear fast.

As these cars age, I've found that lots of parts are becoming no longer available. The spring that you're referring to is used on other Mazda models besides the RX7. Sometimes dealerships won't go through the trouble of trying to locate a part that costs only a couple bucks. I had one instance where I needed a part costing a couple bucks and the dealer said part NLA. I went to another dealer and bought the same part without any hassle. Have you tried Jim Ellis Mazda parts online? Also, Atkins Rotary is another good source and they tend to stock parts that are NLA from Mazda dealerships.

noticed that too, i also notice the 90-05 miata has something similar, probably wont work, but keep your eyes open... judging by the window regulators, Mazda was getting ideas at the sex shop, so i'd look there first

for the spring there is probably a newer number (the 2015 Miata used the same transmission), or failing that is is just a spring, and that is mcmaster car territory

I did manage to order the ball and spring for the transmission, do hope there are some sort of replacements for people later on down the road, with less than 5 in the nation. The cowl part again is less important but does suck that there are none left, I have my original one but it's dried up and doubt the glue inside is still good. Honestly think just getting a thin rubber hose, cutting it length wise, setting some glue in it and forming it to the cowl might just be the way I go. Not Oem but cheap and does the job of keeping the metal off the glass.
