It's fastened to the driver's side of the transmission housing.

Just a fun fact; if your switch is missing and you have the two wires dangling you can just connect the wires.
Driving around with reverse lights on all the time is awesome!

If you have an S4, replacements can be had for fairly cheap. And S5, be prepared to shell out a few bucks. My S5 switch pooped on me, so I don't plan on having reverse lights anytime soon...

^ Are you sure they're different? I don't feel like crawling under my car to look at the one on my S5 transmission, but I don't recall it looking any different from the S4 ones I have (externally at least).

I'm pretty much sure that the reverse is on the left side myself. Neutral switch on the right side. TRANSMISSION chapter of the FSM is online and there is the place to prove one way or the other.

If someone had a reverse switch go out on him and the wires were not buggered up............one might take a meter and put it on ohms. Put the leads on the two wires dedicated to the reverse part of the switch. Put the trans in reverse. IF it ohms out or shows continuity (but does not work when connected to the harness) you might consider getting a simple relay from RadioShack or the autostore. I'm saying that even though the contacts won't carry the current of the reverse lights, it might be good enough to carry enough current to pull in a simple relay. IF it does, then let the switch pull a relay in and have the power wire go thu the relays contacts instead of the reverse switch. Should work.

Similar to what ICemark recommended for tail/side light switch.

My mistake, it's Turbo vs NA. NA ones are cheap. Turbo switches are not. My apologies.

Check the connections near the left side of the transmission under the car; mine were corroded. Pulled them apart, a couple passes with a wire brush, crimped them a little tighter with pliers, and voila, my reverse lights worked again.

I've got a related question. I have a S5 JDM swapped 13B in my 89 vert..its using an S5 N/A harness. My JDM transmission has the threaded part of the reverse/5th gear switch, but is missing the wiring and harnesses. All I have are two cylindrical prongs coming off the screwed in switch.

Is there anyway to take signal from those prongs and patch in wires to my N/A harness? Or even a way to scavenge only the wiring from an N/A switch? I realize the switches are different N/A and turbo...but I have spare N/A parts and wiring. Not sure if I have anything left from that particular switch though.

On a JDM transmission, that'll just be a reverse switch. No 5th gear functionality. Snip the 2 wires for the reverse switch on your engine harness, and add a couple of bullet connectors. You can then just plug them onto the new switch. They're not polar, so it doesn't matter which wire goes to what side either. That's how I did it on my car.

^nice, I thought I read you could go directly from those...I didn't realize it was that simple and inexpensive.
