totallimmortal 04-08-04 10:47 PM

is it funtional?

Carl Byck 04-08-04 10:50 PM

Hood is available now, no wait, contact Attilla. The info is listed in the group buy section, I only had to concieve it, organize it, front the money, and wait nearly a year for mine, but you can buy one now, no waiting LOL. I'm not bitter, really I'm not ;) Fitment is good, quality is very good, I will enlarge the vents though. It's not as mean looking as the stocker IMHO, but much more functional. Carl

Carl Byck 04-08-04 10:51 PM

Total, you posted while I was typing, it is completely functional, I will try and post a better pic of the vents.

luiml73 04-08-04 11:03 PM

WOW!! That looks awesome.

I wish someone made one for FB's:(

BTW" Did you make that lip your self?

Carl Byck 04-08-04 11:06 PM

Yes, the lip is a sheet of 3/16 Aluminum cut w/a body saw.

ddub 04-08-04 11:12 PM

how much does the hood weigh? Fiberglass I assume?

j200pruf 04-08-04 11:33 PM

Carl, are you going to be capable of taking passengers? If so I would pay you for a ride dude, that car is my favorite FC excluding the IMSA GTO cars.

Carl Byck 04-08-04 11:39 PM

I did not weigh the hood, it feels a little lighter than the aluminum one. J200, I will have two seats, with Harnesses, you are welcome to ride along any time. I will be running every NASA event at Thunderhill, and Sears starting mid may. Carl
FWIW there are alot of very nice FCs(much cleaner than mine) out there, but I am trying to do a one off with this, so thanks.

j200pruf 04-08-04 11:55 PM

Sweet, one of my friends sugested taking a school at Thunderhill, so if I ever get my RX7 done I will hopefully see you this summer.

Is the hood functional with the stock TMIC?

NZConvertible 04-09-04 03:48 AM

No.

aka_rocket 04-09-04 04:14 AM

beautiful. one word. can't wait to see it completed.

in2twins 04-09-04 10:29 AM

The hood can absolutely be made functional with a TMIC(mounted forward of the stock location, ALA Blue TII, or CARX7), but you would need to open the vents up JDM style. Most of the hoods in Japan with a TMIC are just a big hole in the hood. The advantage of this hood over any other style for TMICs is that the cut-out is only visible from above not the sides. This hood was designed with function being the primary concern, and it fulfills that goal nicely. Carl

in2twins 04-09-04 10:35 AM

My final design will utilize vertical fences attached to the bottom of the hood to help direct air out the vents, this in combination with "boxing" the radiator/ oil cooler/IC will give me plenty of flow to keep everything cool.

looks pretty mean, carl. :)

can't wait to see it painted (and can't wait to see some taped hot laps, either :D)

He asked about the stock TMIC, which will not work with that hood.
