Removing the Front Cover.........

I found my oil leak and it the front cover gasket, my mechanic want to charge me 400 bucks to replace it, last week I paid him 641 to change oil lines, mount mounts, p/s bushings, cleaned fuel system checked timming ect...

Alot of work is involve when removing the front cover. First you must drain the oil, remove oil pan bolts, remove oil pan, remove fan shroud, remove fan/clutch, belts, main pulley, front engine bolt (the hardest), remove hub, oil injector lines (just the ones proximal to the OMP), front cover bolts, then the front cover!..

Be very carefull with the needle bearings inside the front cover assembly!...you dont want it to get wedge in the spacer!..check MAZDATRIX's website. They tell you about this problem..

nah.. get a day off work... make sure you have lots of extra time in case some bad things happen
get all the needed tools.... needed gasktets...

and take your time..

Green 06-15-02 12:25 PM

if you don't have the gasktets, you can just get gaskets..

hoho

BlackRx7 06-15-02 02:24 PM

you think it can be done in a days time?
I'll just go to the auto skills center they have everything I need there (military priviliges), just need to purchase al the gaskets and what not...could some be as to so kind to tell me which gaskets I need?

Your local mazda dealer should have the micro fische on file and look up all the parts there. Mine used to leak also. Don't use the Mazda gasket for the oil pan, it sucks, and always leaks on me. Instead there silicone sealant stuff is awesome. The bad side is that it's like $40. My friends Pettit motor has pretty much the whole engine sealed in that stuff. I would even consider using that instead of the gaskets. IF you have Q's try Alamo Rotary and talk to Tito. YES he's a rude prick but really knows his 2nd Gens.
