Removing ECU - wiring alternator?

I am in the process of removing my ecu and going 45 DCOE and using a dizzy with an msd box. I am down to the wiring. Wondering if anyone has gone through with this conversion and what they had to rewire to work around the ecu.

Icemark 10-08-06 12:12 PM

re-work the wiring??? The ECU doesn't have anything to do with the alt

J-Rat 10-08-06 04:10 PM

Yeah, but IIRC, the charge and control lines on the N/A are inside the ECU main harness.

Ah, man. You did'nt say that. Someone forced you to say that with a gun at your head. Your going to lose your ProPay (whatever they call it in the AF) if you keep that up and they're going to take back your re-enlistment bonus to boot.

Give Rat an Article Fifteen. Bad Rat. Been drinking on the weekend again.

Okay, I have been known to be wrong, but dont those wires run in the main harness? not that they go to the ECU, but I am reasonably certain they are taped inside the harness.

On the auto car I just pulled the engine on, the alt connection was on a seperate harness from the main engine harness. It was the one that went to the oil sensors and the tranny, among other things.

Yes sir, sir. On a series four non turbo they run thru the EM harness and exit at the F harness inside the car. The Black/Wite and White/Black pass thru the X-15 plugs.

Not on a turbo car though, only non turbo. Talking series four. See Jpg attached.

So, cancel the Article Fifteen and it's one week KP for the RAT (yeah, I know, the AF doesn't have KP).

Okay, so I am NOT smoking crack.. Thank god.

Since this sounds very much like an NA engine, the alternator wires are in the EFI harness. J-Rat would be right and Hailers and Icemark would be wrong. :D

The alternator wires will have to be replaced. Extract the alternator wires and plugs from the removed harness and and reinstall and reconnect them where they came from.

The real question is why are even doing this...

J-Rat 10-09-06 09:35 AM

wow.. I am right for once!

Aaron Cake 10-09-06 10:12 AM

Yep, alternator wires are in the emissions harness. As well as the water temp sensor for the dash gauge.

All that has to be done is to seperate these three wires (um, yellow/white, white/black, black/white I think) from the main harness (as well as the wires to the wiper motor) and reinstall back into the car.
