I take mine off to ease removal. There are so many things in the way with the power steering hoses and all.

RRTEC, are the T2s not supposed to have the oil filter just below the intercooler on the drivers side? Cause I know for a fact that my motor is original and that is where mine is.

^ I think what he meant was that you can remove it without removing the intercooler. Not the easiest thing but possible. Removal of the intercooler would certainly make life easier, but just be careful not to crack the rubber elbow. They tend to become brittle over the years.

I had the same problem with mine. I seemed to be able to reach through all the hoses with the disconnection of just one of them, but i couldn't get a good enough grip on the filter. I was only able to get mine off with an oil filter wrench. But that's just because it was extremely tight. I dunno. It was like a month ago, so. But yeah, an oil filter wrench is only about $3 from auto zone, so go get one. They're handy.

or get one of the socket deals that goes over the top. In the past i've had the wrenches and they always crushed my filter :-(

Or ditch all of your emissions, A/C and PS and you can do it in about .3 seconds.

I've never had a problem changing the oil filter, even with the intercooler, A/C, P/S and emissions in place. Dunno what you're complaining about, it's easy compared to a lot of cars made in the last 20 years.
