I guess the Junkyard SC would work as well.. if its not in shit condition im assuming.

The smaller the pulley, the faster the supercharger turns.

The Spyder 05-11-04 03:48 PM

Damn thats 5 hours from here to, oh well, just write up a good guide with plenty of pictures!
My m90 and parts are on its way!

SonicRaT 05-11-04 04:40 PM

Again, I repeat for those of you planning on a drivers side mount, how the hell do you plan on getting to your plugs/oil fillter? Do you really want to have to pull that thing out every time you change plugs/oil?

LOL! That's one of the reasons I trash the PS and Airconditioning. I hate the ps the most, because for me its worthless but that makes me laugh, because I could see a god damned super charger in the way with all these hoses and shit, on that side would SUCK.

Replacing the nose on the stock Thunderbird M90 SC with a shorter one will bring the overall length of the entire unit to under 12". This is about the same size as the A/C compressor and hard lines coming out of the compressor.

The only obstruction will be the air inlet on the back of the SC. You would not have to pull the entire SC to access the plugs...it would be about the same as changing the plugs on a 3rd gen.

sunshineacid 05-12-04 08:35 AM

you could always starion it. that way you wouldnt have to switch sides.

DEZERTE 05-12-04 10:51 AM

starion it? witw do you mean

All of the GM applications were basicaly integrated into the intake manifold. So I'd look for 89-95 Thunderbird Supercoupes, if you found a 94/95 that would be a VERY nice find. Also the 89-~91? Cougar XR7 supercharged, but they were not very common. Look for them to have XR7 badges on the fenders and "supercharged" written in the body trim below those badges.

The only car company that doesn't intercool their factory superchargers is GM, and we all know how great those cars are for performance.

Most S/C'd fords use intercooling (ussally air-to-water). Just look at the new S/C'd jags. Most have a cool setup where the supercharger is inverted (outlet facing up) feeding twin Air-to-Water IC's.

Unless you plan to run alchy/methonal then you really should consider intercooling with ANY forced induction performance car.

FarNorthMotoring 05-13-04 04:19 AM

From my experience you will probably see charge temps from 200-240 deg F with that unit according to how fast you spin it.

cheap as hell too

burntclutch 05-14-04 01:02 AM

hey i just got an m90, as i too am attempting this project on my s4 streetported gxl,

i planned on mounting it in the same fashion as zBrown, but then using a T2 UIM, TB, and TMIC. it looks like the supercharger would feed nicely into the intercooler.

also, how important is it that i run a bypass valve or blowoff valve with this application?

no blowoff valve needed, bypass valve is part of the s/c with the 3rd gen & up eatons I think.

Nope. The internal bypass valve is unique to the series 4 Eaton models... All series 3 SC's that are found on Tunderbirds/Cougars have an external bypass that is molded into the intake piping.

thx

But with a Paxton or Vortech supercharger (one that is belt driven from behind the supercharger itself). When using an appropriate e-fan ;) you should not have a whole lot of clearance issues on the driver's side, and this leads to the idea I have.
You could use an FMIC with the Vortech/Paxton mounted on the driver's side, because you would have to cross the front end anyway.

And NZ, I don't want to be the one to say this, but most factory supercharged cars are not intercooled. The Thunderbird Supercoupe, the Bonneville SSEi, the Grand Prix GTP, the Riviera S/C, and most American supercharged cars are not intercooled. Most supercharged cars intended for drag racing are not intercooled, as the supercharger tends to be bolted directly to the intake manifold.
:)

The TBird Supercoupe IS intercooled. Part #E9SZ-6K775-A. I don't know about the GM cars, I don't sell GM parts.

..question is that Part # the supercharger itself Or the intercooler?
