Reason for not running..
Hey, recently got a 86 Base for $50 cause the guy that had it knew nothing and his dad wanted it gone. So got it home and discovered it had the wrong plugs. Finally got them out and they were fouled real bad. Could that possibly be a reason for it not to run? The guy said the only way he even got it to fire was by spraying carb cleaner in the air intake which to me might mean that it cleaned the spark plugs for a sec until they got fouled with Fuel again.
Anyways, besides replaceing the plugs and getting some more coolant in the system should I do anything else before starting it up? It has been sitting for at least 1 1/2 yrs. |
anyone??

There are maintenance procedures in the archive section for alot of problems. Fouled plugs will not start an engine and there is an unflooding procedure in the archive as well.

change all fluids and plugs.. add new gas if possible. keep in mind it may be flooded due to an old low compression (or blown) motor.

I've posted the proceedures for starting a "storage" car several times. Should be able to find them by searching my name and "storage".
But a quick run down: -drail and replace ALL fluids -replace ALL belts and hoses -replace ALL filters (oil, fuel, air) -do ALL procedures listed in 60K tuneup -put about an ounce of oil through each leading (lower) spark plug hole, rotate engine by hand a few times, then repeat -start car, pay careful attention to gauges, follow normal breaking procedures for the next few hundred miles |
