only diff might be the injector box. depends what month your 88 was made.

but will it allow the engine to run

If your 87 has one of these below the afm, mounted on the fender, then you need to swap the injectors. Outside of that there is no difference. Swap the engines.https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=1320242

the 88 that i'm taking the bad eninge out of has that. have not looked at the 87 to see if it does yet. and also why would you need to swap the injectors?

That thinh is some kind of "rectifier" for the OHMs running to the injectors, I THINK NOT SURE

Mid 87 and earlier cars have low impedence injectors. Newer cars have high impedence injectors.

Cars with low impedence injectors have the item shown in my jpg. It's called a Solenoid resistor. There is a resistor in it for each of your injectors. It's not a high tech device.

A true 88 car would not have this device.

Ohming out an injector is easy. One meter lead on one pin of the injector......the other lead on the other pin on the injector. Put the meter on ohms. Read the meter. On a low impedence injector you will read approx 2.2 to 2.5ohms.

The ECU is looking for approx 10ohms resistance from the injectors whether its a 87 or 88. The 87 and earlier did this with the solenoid resistor. The later cars do it with the impedence built in the injector. You will eventually destroy the ECU if the resistance is not there.

I doubt you have a real problem. Start changing the engine now. The injector issue can be dealt with later. It's not a biggie in the scheme of things.

86-87 i have noticed has alot of different electronics then the 88. kinda sucks. almost everyting s a different resistant in the 86-87 rexs.

I payed ten bucks at the wrecking yard for a spare. So ask for twenty plus shipping.
