question...

idk if this is a dumb question or not but...

everytime i turn my car it starts but then shuts back down is it just that it dont got gas? my gas light dont work and my gauge is just lil wrong but the car still starts for like 5 secs but turn off right away.

MDD0101 09-12-08 07:08 PM

if there was no gas at this point it wouldnt even start at all..probably a vacuum leak.

fdrefic 09-12-08 07:21 PM

could be first time it did that i tried to give it gas but it just backfires while its dieing off but the confuseing thing is that it finally turns out without unflooding but yea turning off gots me fused up

i turned it on again today for the first time today and it died 30 secs later
then i tried to turn it on again then it just dies 4 secs later

SDrotary-FC 09-12-08 07:24 PM

check the connections and/or workingness of your air flow meter. Mine shit the bed a while back and my car had similar symptoms.

Lack of fuel probably because the afm has it's plug (electrical) off. If that plug is on the afm, then jumper the yellow in color, two socket, fuel pump check connector near the right front strut tower, then try starting again. IF the engine stays running, then .........we can go from there. Free download of the FSM is available online for.........free. FUEL AND EMISSIONS chapter will do.

heres both style afms

fdrefic 09-13-08 09:59 AM

yea i check my afm and it looks fine i check the wires and it seems fine soo yea i do not know wat else to do ideas here?

Aaron Cake 09-13-08 10:45 AM

Your original question is very unclear. After the car initially stalls, if you restart and give it a bit of pedal does it continue running?

If you can't get it to stay running, then the AFM is likely the cause.

If you can keep it running with a little but of the accelerator pedal, then you should check:

1. Vacuum leaks
2. AWS solenoid
3. BAC
4. Cold start cam

Wigbolt 09-13-08 12:29 PM

It could also be a dirty fuel sock on the fuel pump.
Had it been sitting a long time?

fdrefic 09-13-08 07:00 PM

uh i dont think its the fuel pump the car been running and to aaron once i start up the car it just shuts back down it starts regulary like a cold start for like 30 secs then it shuts down i try to give it some gas from the pedal once it started but it dont help it still shuts down i check my afm connections and such it seems fine

ITSWILL 09-14-08 12:26 AM

99% sure your afm is is bad or the wiring is bad.

Aaron Cake 09-14-08 09:56 AM

Based on your statements, which are very difficult to understand because they barely qualify as English, I would agree with the above. Sounds like an AFM issue.

fdrefic 09-14-08 10:38 AM

so your saying i should try to buy a new afm? and if that don't work its my wires?

ITSWILL 09-14-08 01:54 PM

If you turn your ignition switch to the on position and push in on the afm flapper door you should hear the fuel pump start running, if you don't then it is bad.

Then I would check the wiring before I went out and got a new AFM.

Or simply troubleshoot the AFM as per instructions in the FSM. Then if the procedure shows yours as defective, replace it.

fdrefic 09-16-08 07:12 PM

i checked my afm and the afm is working any other ideas here?

ITSWILL 09-17-08 06:41 AM

Maybe a huge air leak between the throttle body and the afm, but I imagine that would be pretty obvious.

As Aaron stated several posts ago, your description of the problem is very vague. To help us help you, you need to be clear on a few things.
First, what year and what model (turbo/NA)
What happens if you play with the pedal when starting/running?
Did you ever put gas in it to eliminate that problem? If your gas gage does not work, track the status of the gas tank by using the trip odometer (fill up the tank everytime you get gas).
How did you check your AFM?
Did you do anything to the car just prior to this occurring?
Have you checked all vacuum hoses?

You've had a couple of the forums best post in your thread. Most likely they know what the problem is, but they cannot help if you are not descriptive enough.

if it does starts up i try to give it gas it does nothing but the car still shuts down
i know i got gas
i check my afm by removing the filter and turnin my ignition switch to on and i opened up the flap i can hear the fuel i think/ also i check the wires and they all seem fine..
i have not done anything to the car ever since....
i check the hoses and it all seem fine

i hope i made it lil clearer

zeromage428 09-17-08 06:16 PM

my guess is a vacuum leak?

fdrefic 09-17-08 06:22 PM
