problems with starting
i'd really appreciate some help from you guys. the other day i was trying to finish up my stereo install. everything was wired up, but the amp wasn't turning on. so i disconnected it and then the car wouldn't start. so i got rid of every connection the amp and speakers would have to the car. now, the car won't even start. if i turn the key for just the battery, the electrical (head unit, lights, etc.) works, but when i try to turn the car over, all power is cut; nothing, nada, zilch. the only way i can return power is to disconnect the battery, let it sit, and then reconnect it. but the same thing just happens again. i checked the engine fuses, and they're all fine, but i'm worried i shorted something really important. anyone got any ideas?

anyone?

Will the car start if you jump it from another car/battery?
i'm gonna try that tomorrow with an optima red top. i just find it weird that absolutely nothing works once i try to crank it.
ok, with the optima the car doesn't die, but it still isn't starting.
check alternator- i know doesn't start it but i've seen it happen could it be the starter? husband's went out recently and it did the same thing a thought or two hope it helps! good luck

i'm thinking it's the alternator. i tried a brand new battery and nothing changed.
well i just rechecked the voltage of the new battery and it's down to below 12V already!
Check ALL your fuses.
i checked the box in the engine bay and the box in the driver's footwell, are there any other boxes?
well i got the alternator checked and it came up with a whopping 1 volt! thanks for the help guys. hopefully this is all i've got to fix.
got the new alternator in, car works with some hiccups, but it works none the less. thanks guys.
