Problem starting after emissions removal
 

So I removed emissions on my 86 GXL, and now the bastard won't start. I took out the EGR, ACV, and sub-zero assist while I was under there, as well as the emissions solenoids (rat's nest). I also removed the coolant lines to the intake manifold. I have the vacuum shit on the back of the throttle body capped (that leads to the aux butterflies) but the butterflies are still in place, and the huge hose from teh charge pipe capped as well. What could be causing it not to start? I couldn't find any obvious vacuum leaks, and I (obviously) used gasket maker for the block-off plates. I ran the FPR to the stock location on the dynamic chamber, and have the injector air bleed in the stock location as well. Trailing plugs are fouled, but I can't see that leading to non-starting. Help?

after i did the emissions removal, mine flooded out like no tomorrow. Took several full unflood procedure tries to get it started (remove plugs, pull egi fuse, turn over at wot, add oil to plug holes, replace plugs and fuse, try to start)

could be a stupid question but did you acciedently send your fuel line up to the secondary rail and the return from the primary, cause i did (wasnt paying attention) but once swithced to the right way it started right up.

i still don't get why people remove emissions on n/a's, it just causes more problems then you will net in gains(if any).

I had mine removed to avoid problems. I don't need them for my state so why keep around a bunch of parts that have the potential to break? Or vacuum lines that tend to split, etc.?

I didn't do it for any gains. I did it for simplification. Less vacuum lines equals less shit to go wrong (once it's running that is).

gxl90rx7 - I will try unflooding it again with the plugs out, I had just done it with the EGI fuse pulled...

rotary-guy - I put the line from the fuel filter to the primary (upper) rail, and the other line to the secondary (lower) rail.

Any input?

I don't know why but I thought it was in (from fuel filter) at the bottom, out at the top? If this hasn't been solved by now, let me know and I'll go look at mine.

edit: Oh, and the reason I removed my emissions is because $60/pc for each of those 6 solenoids, WITH my discount, is ridiculous. I'm still trying to iron out my car's newfound grievances, but once started, it runs beautifully now without it, I just can't get it to hold an idle yet. :P

lxk 199, you're correct about the filter connecting to the primary rail, but the primary fuel rail is the bottom rail (the one on the engine block), not the top. Here's the proper fuel routing:

"New fuel injection hose is needed. One line runs from the fuel filter to the side of the primary fuel rail facing forward (the side with the pulsation damper). The other end of the primary fuel rail needs to connect to the rear end of the secondary fuel rail (the end without the pressure regulator). Finally, the end of the secondary fuel rail facing forward needs to connect to the fuel return, sticking through the firewall on the driver's side."
