Remove the CAS hold down fastener. Then tap the CAS one way then the other way. Tap it on the part where the slot is in the CAS, not the upper body of the CAS. You cannot harm the guts of it. Thing about it. Normally you undo the fastener and then with light hand pressure move it either clockwise or anti clockwise. Harms nothing doing that. There is nothing that can bind up and break.

I've never run into your type problem with the CAS. I assume the large 0'ring on the shaft is dried up or ????? whatever and binding and keeping it from rotating.

Can't break anything imho by tapping the part of the CAS where the slot is. Can't happen. Ain't a gonna happen. Do it. Save money. The dealer tech is going to giggle when your out of sight and he taps it loose in ten seconds or so. Cost is too high for that to happen. Let the dealer make his boat payment off someone else.

Mine is stuck too, I've hit it with a soft hammer and tried everything I could think of, it won't budge. Good thing my timing is correct .

And to prevent this in the future, run some bearing grease around the o-ring area when you reinstall it.

Just to be sure, you know that's not actually setting timing, right? (edit: don't want some noob to misinterpret and think he's adjusting timing)

Aligning the marks between the CAS gear and shaft just puts you in the range within the slot.

You then still have to hook up the timing light and adjust the timing according to procedure.

The area where the red dots are.

I'd have no qualms about using a regular metal hammer. Maybe use a long extension to get at it better.

That is setting timing, adjusting timing is done with the light but if you make sure the gear doesn't move when installing the CAS you will not have to adjust it with the light although it is recommended. If its your first time doing it though it is probably best to adjust it with the light to make sure so good call.

btw all the "procedure" is, is making sure the yellow mark lines up with the pointer above the crank pulley. Make sure the yellow mark is lined up to the pointer when you initially set the timing and reinstall the CAS.
