problem

ok i was racing this kid in a sentra today jus messin around knew i would take him...i kno my clutch is old and im pretty hard on it but its still got some life in it for now...well anyway i hit 8k as usual in second then hit third as i get up to 6k my revs drop significantly though i have the the car doing WOT... it felt as if my fuel cut off but i know it didnt...the revs jus dropped to around 5k and stayed there would not budge so i shut it down immediately...i dont kno what the problem was and it hasnt happened since but it freaked me out...im hoping it was the clutch and it jus stopped grabbing for a second...im sure its not the fuel pump cuz its never acted up like that and i kno i didnt blow a dreaded seal cuz the car is running fine again...this was a cold night and the clutch hadnt been warmed up for that long (around 10 min.)...what do u think is it something serious...god i hope not? i drive a 90 gxl

if you slipped your clutch and you were already in gear, the RPMs would raise, not lower to 5k. now if it was a shift and you'd have ended up at around 3k AFTER the shift, I can see the revs going to 5k.

remember: when the clutch slips, the engine has nothing to resist against, so it just revs till either you let off or the clutch gets back on it.

I would do a compression check. With a rotary engine, a sudden drop in revs usually means 2 things:
1. Loss of fuel.
2. Loss of compression.

I'd check both really...

turbo model? s4 or s5? if its an s4 make sure the afm is positioned correctly...and oh yeah never and i mean never shut off a turbo model immediatly without letting it sit for 2-3 min...thats what turbo timers are used for to protect your engine and turbo.

i figured out what the problem is...either the transmission or the shifter is warped on 3rd gear and its not fully catching the gear when i up shift...i have to upshift and turn to the left a little so it catches...but this really only happens under high rpm's with a lot of pressure in the tranny...has this happened to anyone else?
