possible to install power windows/locks on a FC?

Has anyone installed power windows and/or locks onto a non-powered window/lock FC before? I've helped a friend do it with his S13 240SX using junkyard parts from a wrecked power window/lock S13. When we removed his door pannels we found that the harnesses were already there, just had to install the window motor and the locks. Any chance it's the same for an FC? Im looking to pick up a daily driver (90-91 black FC) and would like to have power window and locks, but just about everything I find doesn't have them. Thanks.

The harness is generally not there on cars not equipped with power windows. You would have to swap door harnesses as well.

As far as lock, the few vehicles that do have power locks american (you don't have your location listed, so I don't know if you are in america or if you are where you are) anyway most american versions (that have power locks) have what's called "follow me locks" which means there is a switch in the drivers door, but no door lock motor. There is a door lock motor on the passengers door however. So you could install the follow me locks (again after swaping door harnesses) or just use aftermarket locks which then can be hooked up with a keyless entry or security system.

I am not sure if Icemark is right on this one

On all FC i saw were door harnesses complete (for conversion from manual to power mirrors we needed just drop in mirrors, hook them to harness and hook up power mirror controls in place between seats...)

I will have to check friends manual window equipped FC, but i think it has already connectors for power window motors and switches...

So far all FC stuff i have worked with was ONE type of in-car harness - car originaly equipped with manual steering had connectors for PS pump and PS computer etc....

Power mirrors are a little different than power windows, and yes all the US models even the base ones were prewired for power mirrors.

But pull the door panel on a 86-87 sport, or a Luxury coupe and you won't see the power window wires.

Or pull the door panel on a 'vert and you won't see the power lock wires.

And yes most of the main harnesses are prewired, but the door harnesses are not.

Shouldnt the wiring for the power windows be in the car (runs under the dash), but just not in the doors?

That was what I have been saying. I guess I have not been clear enough..:(

dr0x 03-25-03 05:52 PM

Ah okay. I thought you were saying there should be no wiring :p:

No, I said there would be no door wiring, he asked if the door wirning was in place. In my first paragraph I said he would have to swap in the door harness, unlike his 240

The previous owner of my GTUs had a Valet keyless entry and a remote start however at this Moment it doesn't work. Something to do with fuses or something, I haven't looked into it because my E-brake is out so If I had that sucker in gear and hit the remote start, "chirp, there goes the only B/B GTUs Turbo w/o a driver." and that would suck so.........anyway it can be done, but I don't know how.

1989 Black on Black GTUs
JSpec TII Engine Swap
Tenzo Intake
GReddy BOV
2.5" DP and MP
Borla Cat-Back
Tokico Struts
Intrax Springs
MBC with SPI Boost Gauge
225/50 on the rear 215/55 on the front
PS, AC, AP removed
GReddy FMIC on Backorder at the moment
I don't boost, so.........I have no fun, but soon..

Icemark, I have pulled the door panel off both of my 86 and 87 base models and they both came prewired for power windows, door locks, security system, and switches needed to operate all of them. It has like 7 open plugs and on my 87 I've confirmed that they are for all those through my shop manual's wiring harness.

You should make sure the neutral safety wire has been hooked up. Most legal remote starts have them. It would then be impossible to remote start the car without the car's gear shift in neutral.

The FC has a wire that grounds when the car is not in gear.

sure you have a base or that the doors are the original doors?

Do you have power mirrors??? if so, you don't have a base.

It didn't have power mirrors or a sunroof. The only option it had on it was power steering.

ah... yeah... then it wasn't a base, because the base was not available with power steering even as an option.

4 lug steel wheels? The base came standard with those.

Or perhaps the car has had the doors replaced or other body work done.

riptyde 03-27-03 10:39 PM

I has the 4 lug 14in. polished phone dial wheels. There is no way for me to know if the doors have been changed or not. If it's not the base model, then what model would it be?

Icemark 03-27-03 10:58 PM

Polished phone dial wheels only came on the 88 model SE which did come with power steering.

either you don't really have an 87 or someone switched VIN plates

I have an 87 because the vin plates match the firewall vin number and they say Jan. of 87. Another reason why an 87 is because it has low impedence injectors.

Again sounds like it is not a base, but either way, the wheels have been changed or modified, since polished wheels again were not available until the 88 model year (7/87 through 12/88 production). Maybe this will help you:

sounds to me like you have a non stock modified car...

riptyde 03-29-03 10:03 PM

Oh well. All I now is that both rx-7s that I have owned came wired for power windows and door locks. Also, every care a the the junkyard I've seen has those wires. They just need the motors and switchs to get the power to them.

Icemark 03-30-03 11:12 AM

well I think there are a couple of other threads just this weekend, with people complaining that theirs do not have the wiring and asking how to wire power wins in.

I guess you got lucky (or unlucky since copper is pretty heavy).

BLUE TII 03-30-03 02:37 PM

My '86 Base had the wire harness in the door for the power accessories.

Yes, it was Base model

True Red (orangish red)
no power anything!
no sunroof
no storage bins
unpolished phone dials
aluminum hood
etc.

From Indianopolis Speedway Mazda, 1st sold w/ some miles on it in '87 (dealer demo car?). Built in '85.

Icemark 03-30-03 03:14 PM

and it has two plug harnesses from the door in the drivers kick panel???

sub9lulu 07-03-03 05:47 PM

sorry to dig up the old post
but i m wondering will it be easier if i just drop in 2 doors with powereverything and do the wiring ?

ERAUMAZDA 07-03-03 05:52 PM

wiring. If you can wire properly

20B10AE 10-02-03 07:55 PM

Here's a new twist on this. . .

I'm putting an NA driver's side harness in my 88 TII since my harness is pretty screwed up, and I don't have access to another TII harness.

I noticed; however, that while I have the two plugs at the kickpanel, there are NOT two plugs that are compatible on the dash harness. There is one that will plug in, but the other has a different shape than it should.

I looked at the online FSM, but I only saw a schematic for the TII front harness.

Anyone offer some insight?
