Pics of what i did today!

i decided to do some of the cheap mods that people have been talking about lately. and after doing them i like them!

here are some pics of what i did today to my car, sorry for the low quality but i only have a camera phone. and one thing i cant decide on is whether or not to smoke (with white paint) the front clear lenses like i did with the side ones. plus on the rear are the red light/reflectors supposed to be one big piece? because i couldnt get the reflector part off the light part.

first pic is just one of the tail lights with painters tape on it ready to be painted. i was amazed at how scratched and faded they were when i got them off. second pic is passanger side front/side turn signal (smoked with white paint). third pic is front and side turn signals (i just left the front one clear). fourth is the drivers side front signal (clear).... then both front and side.

personally I prefer the original, but it's clean, so if U like it it's great! :bigthumb:

I like the painted rears, although I think the stock black in good shape still looks good on white FCs.

Good so far -
Next go for the grill opening bars with satin black.

2ndGen.rocket 10-11-04 10:54 AM

Your paint doesn't match! Try doing the taillights again in an off-white. See if you can match the color up. They they will look real good.

Hmmm, I did that and it worked ok, but I'm thinking of slicing them and the mid horizontal bar off. Then going over the little notches where they were with fiberglass and painting it up. Any downside to doing this?

I think it'd look fucking rad with a nice wide opening there. :D

scheistermeister 10-11-04 06:28 PM

yeah, i know, thats because may paint sucks ass, it almost looks like the PO fucktard painted the whole car with spray paint. pluss paint is chipping everywhere on it. and i painted them white because i had some extra old white spray paint.

i thought about painting the grill, but most of the cheap white paint is chipping off and i dont feel like spending the time on it when im going to swap it, the rear and the modlings with S5 stuff.

and today i painted my interior pieces black and it looks really good. but i havent decided if i want to spray the dash or just find a black one.

That really sucks. I've got a little bit of that going on with my car. I've been using touch-up paints to repair rusted portions, and they've held up real well, but because they're in a spray can, you can never get them smooth enough to match the factory finish, but they're close enough for now. :D

scheistermeister 10-11-04 07:19 PM

yeah, im getting ready to do that, im going to cut/grind out all the rust and primer and spray paint the exposed metal. most of the places will becoverd with side skirts when i get them. plus ive gotten sorta used to it.

That's cool. I just finished covering the rest of my viewable rust, but I'm afraid it's too bad to fix completely. That's ok though, I'm patiently waiting for a good TII to come my way for a good price. :D

Scheister...look at primered black FC's. They're fucking cook as hell. You should think about that for a cheap alternative to bad paint.

2ndGen.rocket 10-11-04 09:20 PM

Speaking of which, I had a primer black FC drive past me on Rt. 81 near Syracuse last week. Anyone from here?

Speaking from experience, you must put some sort of mesh in the opening after doing this. I sucked in a plastic bag that completely covered the oil cooler and sent temps upward pretty quickly. I used 10mm square wire mesh painted black. You can barely see it.

Sure, if you like you car looking like a nasty old shitter that you can't afford to paint...

SureShot 10-12-04 07:35 AM

Many don't realize that primer is formulated strictly for bonding & smoothing.
It is not intended to protect steel.

It is NOT weather or waterproof.
You need a finish paint for that.

That's why you see cars in primer with rust bleeding through.

There are flat & satin finish paints if you want that look.

staticguitar313 03-13-05 07:48 PM

flat and satin finishes slowly become shiny with time, and not always al at ones leaving part shiny and other still dull, striaghten and fill everything out perfectly smoooth and go with gloss black and polish it out, it SOO hot!!! i love it when black car are done right, finish looks like it still wet hahah i dont know why i'm reviving this thread, i was looking for pics of tinted front turn signals . . .

i like the AE style tails, i was thinking of painting mine to match my car also but i opted for S5's instead.

if you paint the bumpers you need a flexible paint, rattle can paint will chip off in a matter of weeks. i use plasti-color paint with my sunrise red FC and it matches damn near perfect and can be wetsanded and polished to look like the original paint and it won't crack.

I was thinking of doing the same thing when I had s4 tails, but just like you I opted for s5's.

I've seen people use normal rattle can but you have to do a really good and careful job.

When people do rattle paint, do tehy normally just buy stuff from Home Depot, or go with the more expensive touch-up paints that they sell at automotive shops? I've been looking at project FCs and it would be interesting to see how well I could get it to come out.

The hardest part is wet sanding the damn thing after every coat because rattle cans don't atomize very well and the pressure is erradic. :D

They use the paint in the cans at auto parts stores from what I've seen.
