Depending on the fronts, 275/40/ will be too tall. I'd go down to a 35.
That is if you want a balanced car and not a Hotrod.

I'm also interested in that information. I need new tires on my s4.

Guys with 275 on the back could you please tell us what is your wheels size (wide, offset?).

Thanks

Rear wheel is a 17*9.5*35 offset

rpf1 17-9.5 +38

knonfs and fc3s91, do you guys use any spacer w/ that spec of wheels?? or did you guys do any fender rolls (or may be fender flares)??

fc3s91 04-02-09 04:31 PM

I only used a 7.5 mm spacer so it sits flush. There is plenty of for 285/40/17.
Thanks Robert

No spacers, or fender roll, however I don't know if the fender lip will hit the tire at a hard lunch.

i have 17x9s, going on back, and they are +24. think they will rub? t2 struts and some lowering springs on s5. prolly need a spacer

Slammedblk7 04-02-09 09:30 PM

9s are too skinny...tire will bulge out.

fc3s91 04-02-09 09:32 PM

No rubbing under hard loads as you can see in my pics

gaijinrx7 04-02-09 09:38 PM

yea but you used a spacer?

and i am not worried about tire bulge, the tire will not come off the rim and i would rather not stretch tire across rim

I've run 275/40/17 on an 8in wide wheel. It did bulge out a bit but I never had an issue. I'd think they would work fine on a 17x9.

Slammedblk7 04-02-09 10:21 PM

I used to have a 275/40 on a 9" wheel...Not my cup of tea. Im not saying it wont work..but looks goofy IMO. Thats why I changed to 10s

iamxeddiex 04-02-09 11:34 PM

i went to a used tire shop, and they wouldn't put anything wider than a 185!? ain't that some shit.

batmanfc 04-02-09 11:48 PM

those tires on the red fc look awesome how wide are the rims

That's hard to believe since almost all normal cars come with 205/60/15 or mainly 205 normally. Are you sure your not mistaken from 285?

The recommended rim width for a 275/40 is 9"-11", so there will be no problem. Certainly a wider width would be appropriate, but not necessary.

Nothing is wrong with spacers as long as a they are hub centric.
Thanks Robert
