Depending on the fronts, 275/40/ will be too tall. I'd go down to a 35.
That is if you want a balanced car and not a Hotrod.

I'm also interested in that information. I need new tires on my s4.

Guys with 275 on the back could you please tell us what is your wheels size (wide, offset?).

Thanks

Rear wheel is a 17*9.5*35 offset

fc3s91 04-02-09 03:51 PM

rpf1 17-9.5 +38

gkarmadi 04-02-09 04:10 PM

knonfs and fc3s91, do you guys use any spacer w/ that spec of wheels?? or did you guys do any fender rolls (or may be fender flares)??

fc3s91 04-02-09 04:31 PM

I only used a 7.5 mm spacer so it sits flush. There is plenty of for 285/40/17.
Thanks Robert

No spacers, or fender roll, however I don't know if the fender lip will hit the tire at a hard lunch.

gaijinrx7 04-02-09 09:25 PM

i have 17x9s, going on back, and they are +24. think they will rub? t2 struts and some lowering springs on s5. prolly need a spacer

Slammedblk7 04-02-09 09:30 PM

9s are too skinny...tire will bulge out.

Slammedblk7 04-02-09 09:31 PM

17x10 +12

fc3s91 04-02-09 09:32 PM

No rubbing under hard loads as you can see in my pics

gaijinrx7 04-02-09 09:38 PM

yea but you used a spacer?

and i am not worried about tire bulge, the tire will not come off the rim and i would rather not stretch tire across rim

I've run 275/40/17 on an 8in wide wheel. It did bulge out a bit but I never had an issue. I'd think they would work fine on a 17x9.

Slammedblk7 04-02-09 10:21 PM

I used to have a 275/40 on a 9" wheel...Not my cup of tea. Im not saying it wont work..but looks goofy IMO. Thats why I changed to 10s

iamxeddiex 04-02-09 11:34 PM

i went to a used tire shop, and they wouldn't put anything wider than a 185!? ain't that some shit.

batmanfc 04-02-09 11:48 PM

those tires on the red fc look awesome how wide are the rims

That's hard to believe since almost all normal cars come with 205/60/15 or mainly 205 normally. Are you sure your not mistaken from 285?

The recommended rim width for a 275/40 is 9"-11", so there will be no problem. Certainly a wider width would be appropriate, but not necessary.

Nothing is wrong with spacers as long as a they are hub centric.
Thanks Robert

gaijinrx7 04-03-09 07:44 PM

yea, nothing wrong. i will probably fab my own. i got the rims today and measured them and they are 9.5 on my tire machine tool

ls2toy 08-13-09 03:40 AM

bump from the dead!! if you're running a lowered car on coilovers, how are you guys fixing the camber and preventing the rubbing?i have some 17x10 in the rear and getting a 275/40 tire for it, but afraid that i'll have to do some massive pulling or wb overfenders for it, any suggestions?? and the fronts are 17x9 and i'll be running a 255 tire on it, would i need flares for the fronts?

edit! 17x9+22 F and 17x10+18 rear.

MaczPayne 08-13-09 10:56 AM

Fronts you can get away with camber. If you want to run 0 camber then you will need flares for the front. The rears will definitely need a roll/pull or camber. Overfenders can be used as well.

ls2toy 08-13-09 03:02 PM

i have camber plates in the front, so hopefully i can maybe get a small wb fender and have it sit flush. the rears i'm hearing that i'll have a bit of a problem fitting? i was thinking of a pull and camber adjusters but most are telling me they'll be pretty ugly.... personally i like the heavy pulled look, haha

here's a pretty sick pull, not sure how he did it, but i damn sure wouldn't want to try it with a roller.

MaczPayne 08-13-09 05:00 PM

IIRC it wasn't a pull. There was some cutting, bending, and sheet metal used to fill in the gaps.

ls2toy 08-13-09 08:35 PM

crap! haha.... how much did everyone have to modify to fit the 275's back there? and with no camber!

Modify for 275 in rear?

Chose right offset! +40, but with a little camber.

-------------------

Modify for 255 in front-

Roll lip under, coilovers, max camber and +30 offset.

too late for that! the rims i got only came in that offset and width :(

LargeOrangeFont 08-14-09 03:22 PM

what offset and width?

MaczPayne 08-14-09 03:56 PM

17x9+22 F and 17x10+18 rear

Crap.. should have read the beginning of the thread again.

Sounds like somone got RPF1s.

It will probably need a bit of fender rolling/lip cutting but it should work fine.

Holy shit!!!! thats awesome. makin the impossible, possible :icon_tup:

mbonner 08-14-09 06:50 PM

I have 234 45R 17 on the rear on racing rims. They will not fit on the front as they rub the springs. They look about right for my 88 vert and the speedo is correct too, measured by my GPS

Doh, sorry. :(

Well, that mega roll/pull posted does look good... :icon_tup:

Rob XX 7 08-14-09 07:44 PM

only bad thing about that is unless someone really knew what they were doing and did it with mostly metal and welding that bodywork will only last a few years before it starts cracking, doing that in glass or glassing in over fenders will not last.

looks crazy though

ls2toy 08-15-09 01:52 PM

well... i'll do some lip cutting, pull the fenders as far as i can... if i mess up then i'll just get some overfenders, haha

eage8 08-17-09 01:16 PM

you guys are making me want to put 275s on my 17x10s....

I'm definitely putting 245s up front on 17x8 +35s, we'll see how that goes. I'm hating my 225s

h_block88 12-21-09 08:59 AM

i only got 235'/45/17 in the front and it rubs to strut and if i do hard turn to fender
Do i need a coilovers to fit 245/35/17 ?

fc3s91 12-21-09 08:38 PM

yep

mx_man 01-27-10 08:06 PM

i want goofy dragster drag radial tires on my car...

i have 17x8.5 volks 40 mm offset

i assume i would need a 20 mm offset in my wheel to clear the arches eh? am i way off?

it sounds like i need a 17x9 w/ a 35-38mm offset eh?
