omp lines...alternatives?
 

im i relegated to buying a new set of factory omp lines for my s4, or is there a alternative material i can make them out of?

I used some weedeter fuel lines. They worked really well and fit around banjo's

i assume youre talking about the silicon fuel lines like on nitro r/c cars??? the stuff is pretty elastic no problems with the oil not getttin injected? thanks

i hate the OMP lines, ive had to replace a few from slightly rough handling, with spares i have. I'd love to find something that works really good. ive heard of people using the fuel line, but id be afraid of kinking and heat,..

I went to a shop that works on alot of yard machines. Wasn't a little mom and pop store either so i felt they were pretty respectible. I told them there wasnt a whole lot of pressure going through them but i still wanted to be safe. I also told them that they ride right along the engine block. And they said they would work fine. The ones i put in early last summer made it thought summer and winter and still are intact.

are they the silicon ones?

yeah an good alternative would be nice, at around $15 bucks a piece, and the way they seem to get brittle, theres gotta be another way

well how much pressure is actually going through those lines?? Because with a normal fuel resistant hose, with excessive oil, (which there definitly would be...) it makes them soft, and when they get soft you run a risk of them stretching out and getting bigger, although they are braided i still think you could run into problems there.

What are the stock ones made out of???

I do not know about where you guys get the fuel line from mowers and stuff... We have people coming in all the time getting fuel line for their weedeaters, tractors, and so on. Seems that stuff does not hold up more than a year or so at best before it goes brittle. I am only going off of what the customers are telling me though. If it was me, I would try something other than lawn mower fuel line.

again i asked the same questions about deteriation, and oil deteriating. The line i had wasnt fuel line that would be put on a lawn mower or the kind that we use for fuel. This was weedeter line that is made not to deteriate from the oil. I mean think about it when is the last time you changed the lines in your weedeter, probably never. Also that fuel and oil sits in those lines stationary for days at a time. Like i said i replaced all mine with this stuff. I just recently took the engine apart too swap it and the lines were in the same condition they were when i intalled them (just a little dirty), they were still connected snuggly to both banjo ends so i say there worth it. Its about .50 a foot for this stuff too.

Steel braided lines run for 180 bucks for the set. Isn't there anything else out there??

The stock lines are plastic i think? And over time the plastic gets worn out.

You also have to take into account the heat coming off a rotary engine too. I do not believe that Weedeater fuel line was intended to operate at that temperature for extended periods of time. All I am saying is that if it were me I would not trust my engine to parts made for an engine that is not designed to last more than several years (Weedeater motor).

I got some vinyl hose from a hardware store, the fit well, I checked the max operating temp of the hose before i bought it and made sure it could take the heat. so far the are working great withno leaks and they are still soft. I check em all the time since I'm so paranoid but they seem to do the trick, only cost a couple bucks

hahaha....dude. cc per cc a weedeter engine gets 10x's hotter that a car. There is no coolant no airflow, it just sits there and acts like a big heat sink. Are you so paranoid about you wiring harness because thats just covered with some electrical tape.

I've got 4 omp lines, I'll part with them for little since I won't need them. I'm going to be premixing now :)

My car is what? 18 years old? Still running fine on the first set of lines...
Sure I'll get new ones when I rebuild the engine and they're kinda steep from Mazda but if you look at the sercvice intervall, the car wil be long gone before they're needing to be replaced again.

I'm only paranoid about any strange noise, leak, drip, sniff, thud, creak, snap, hiccup, fart, cough, etc. that my car makes;) guess I just always want it to be perfect:)

And no they are not getting brittle, don't leak and there are no bad after effects at all. Cost is minimal. There is no pressure to talk about in the omp lines. It ain't engine oil pressure. Take one off sometime with the engine running and you'll see.
