OMG my ears are bleeding!!!!!
Ok so today I figure I am gonna take my car for a ride up to the store to get a spark plug socket big enough to change my plugs.. afterwards I come home replace my plugs and wires, fire up the car and oooooooo nice and smooth
I reach down and give the actuators for the 5th and 6th whatchamacalat to make sure they are opening when I hit 3K or whatever it is.. I pull out and go to the end of my street... I make a right and gun it and out of no where a nice waaaaaa to WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA pop, bang bobo.. needless to say I think I either broke a hole in the pipe from the manifodl to the convertor or the gasket went... either way something went and I am curious .... did I do soemthing or was it just luck of the draw to happen once I did the above.. are these notorious for blowing exhaust gaskets or did I prolly rupture the pipe? I cant exactly see the leak at the time but I can feel a small leak from between the manifold and cat, and do to the EXCESSIVE noise I am preaty sure it uncorked itself from before the cat... anywho the reason for this post in this section is to find out.. WHAT do u think happened? Dave |
well I found the problem... the exhaust broke right where the first pipe flange bolts to the manifold flange...
the pipe seperated from the flange itself Dave |
How did you do that?
|
Rust... the same thing happened to my old GXL's stock exhaust.
|
Just had this fixed on my car as well
Here's the old downpipe section: http://www.zorce.com/Projects/Rx7-2G...cked-dpipe.jpg And here's the new section about to be welded in: http://www.zorce.com/Projects/Rx7-2G...ooth-dpipe.jpg The old section was horribly made and pretty much just went from a slight crack to cracked off in one short blast down the highway. Turbo lag is now much less with the new pipe. Now I have to redo my dyno chart and see if it looks any smoother/better. |
wow, the power of rust huh.
|
I think mine broke off because I backed the 7 onto on my lawn which is a basic hill and I wonder if I hit the exhaust hard without knowing it..
either way if it is weldable it will get done today if not what do I do then? Dave |
enjoy the sounds of a rotary engine til you get it fixed
