oil types
hello,
i have a 88 SE n/a and am wondering what type of oil to use in the transmission rearend etc...wherever it needs oil whattype should i use?? crossbar |
Assuming you have a 5-speed, both tranny and rear end take 80w-90. You could get away with 75w-90, or straight 80 or 90. Factory spec, I think, is 80w-90 for tranny, and straight 90 for the rear. Stock SE's don't have LSD's, so you don't have to worry about limited slip additive. A high quality synthetic in your gearbox can help prevent you from having to replace any worn out synchros for a while, and may improve your shift quality. I've heard that GM Synchromesh gear oil is a good alternative to synthetics.

Just changed all oils, fluids etc on my TII a couple days ago:
Engine: 20-50 Tranny: 75-90 Dif: 80-90 50-50 mix in the "fridge" (although I prefer 30-70 in the summer) dot4 for Steering, brakes, clutch Sounds good, dont it ? :D (all numbers are from factory specs) |
