is this normal?

not going to lie, i was highway racing and when i parked my car, i let it sit for about an hour then went to start it and it started normally then stalls, so i did it again and just started driving on it, well it eventually got to the point where it wouldnt stall but it would idle around 500-700, i do have the engine street ported, and at high revs the car does smoke a little bit, and it was cold outside, just wondering what the problem might be...........?

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-09-05 01:14 PM

Ur car hates u.....no not really mine does that also. One little temp fix I found was to let it run after driving like it had a turbo timer. Allows the motor and oil to cool down and makes ur car like u more.

Tofuball 01-09-05 01:18 PM

^ I Second That!

Its good to let your car idle a little bit before you shut it off, especially after racing. :) Even if you dont have a turbo :)

earthisflat 01-09-05 01:30 PM

i let it run down for at least 40 secs, but i'll install the turbo timer, thanks

earthisflat 01-09-05 04:39 PM

the problem is back, and it smells like its not burning all the gas

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-09-05 04:44 PM

So its running rich. How old is the motor. n/a or TII? Check the injectors and spark plugs + wires. Start with the basic less exspensive stuff. Rotarys are known for running rich when modified, hence the flames.

earthisflat 01-09-05 05:07 PM

not sure of age, but its a turbo 2, with a street port and thats what im going to do is check the plugs, and all that other stuff

93silver3rd 01-09-05 07:38 PM

is it fixed?

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-09-05 07:52 PM

Sounds like its just dumping fuel in. What other mods do u have?

earthisflat 01-10-05 03:39 AM

fcd, rebuilt turbo, checked the spark plugs and there was nothing wrong with them, i now just have a ton of more stuff to check, 720cc secondaries, block off plate, and air pump is removed

RETed 01-10-05 03:51 AM

Blown or loose hose...

If not, get a compression check done - this will confirm or eliminate the motor is hurt.

You did take off the cats along with the air pump right?

Also what color is the smoke you talk of.

hondahater 01-10-05 08:57 AM

your going to be running way rich with stock turbo and 720cc secondaries without taking some of that fuel away with an safc.

earthisflat 01-10-05 01:06 PM

the smoke is kind of blue, and i really need to find a compression gauge, yeah the cats are off

earthisflat 01-10-05 01:10 PM

it also has a slight oil leak on the passenger side, and theres a slight coolant leak where the cap is on the water pump

RotaryWeaponSE7EN 01-10-05 02:24 PM

Well those are 2 problems that would cause that.

Parastie 01-10-05 03:13 PM

Blue smoke=oil leak into the combustion chamber.

BlaCkPlaGUE 01-10-05 03:38 PM

Or its a rich running OMP.

I think that during your race the exaust gasses got so hot that they burned up the O2 sensor to its final stand. That could explain why your running rich..

Do the quick&dirty test...
Pull top spark plug one at a time.
Remove both top fuses under the hood.
Push down on gas pedal all the way down.
Crank for 10 seconds - note sounds of "pfffsssttt"
Replace stop spark plug and pull other top spark plug.
Repeat above.
They should all be consistent sounding.

Did you get it fixed?

silverrotor 01-11-05 11:16 PM

I got a kick out of how you started your Intro...with everything mentioned, I'd do the simple but effective method as RETed has mentioned. This should give you a better status of your Engine.

jacobcartmill 01-12-05 12:15 AM

i bet you were racing and blew an IC hose loose, still reaming the piss out of your turbo and blew the turbine oil seals.

the loose IC hose would explain the crappy idle, and the blown turbine would explain the smoke.

earthisflat 01-12-05 02:14 AM

where would that ic hose be located at?

jacobcartmill 01-12-05 02:49 AM

on either side of the intercooler, anywhere after the turbo and before the throttle body.

earthisflat 01-12-05 03:09 AM

i'll check, are there several of these hoses?, im kind of new to the rx-7
