Newbie
I have always been a car enthusiast, and it's about time I picked up a car I can really enjoy. I'm SOMEWHAT familiar with rx-7s and think that I'd like to find a 2nd generation. Can anyone help me out as to what models to look for and what to stay away from. Also, where's the best place to find a nice one in the northeast (I'm from northern NJ).
I'd like to spend less than 4 or 5 grand and find a reasonably reliable car. And I'd probably x-cross it in the future. |
damn you missed out on Nick's car lol. But that went for over 6k so you may not have wanted it. Welcom man. For autocross I would recomend a Base or a Sport model both are light weight even for FC's The sport has better brakes though so that will be a plus if you can find one. I bought my sport for 2k but I could have gotten it for 1500 or less. Here on the forum is a good place to start looking for one. CHeck the normal things that you do with all cars. Also do a compression test to see if the motor is still in ok condition.

convertibles are slow, turbos are fast, and regular na's are somewhere in between. its fairly hard to make a vert very sporty because they are so heavy. there is much that can be done to an na and even more to a turbo. all of them are very fun cars but i preffer the turbo myself

BTW: Rx-7s are not that heavy compared to 300zxs supras Eclipses and Hondas...excetion CRX |
Turbo's are great, but you'll probably want to do what many of us have done and I'm doing tomorrow. Buy a reliable daily driver so you're not screwed when something breaks.

What can I expect to pay for a turbo in decent shape? What years are more desirable?
|
I don't know if it's the same up there, but the market in the DC metro area seems to be a little crazy right now. I've been considering getting a new one and they seem to be going to 140-200 percent of bluebook value. They're also hard to find, took me six months to locate mine, but it was worth it.
