New E fan & Koyo Installtion Questions!!!!!
I am installing a new efan & koyo radiator and have a few questions. They may seem silly, but there is no such thing as a silly question when it comes to the pain in the ass FC3S. My car is a show car, so I am cleaning up the engine bay. These are my questions:
1. Shoudl I remove the AC fan & cooler in front of radiator? Are they restrictive? 2. Can I install the new fan to the AC fan circuitry? 3. What temp does the AC fan kick in? 4. Should the new fan bring cold air in or blow hot air out? Also, check out these fans with high CFM and low amp draw at great prices. 1: Sure, as long as you never plan on using/having A/C
2: Sure, but I wouldn't. 3: Comes on whenever the A/C is on. 4: Won't matter, but mount it in a pulling configuration. Putting it in front of the rad will somewhat block airflow while cruising. |

Thanks guys. Simple but important questions.
The AC fan is attached to a thermoswitch at the radiator fill gooseneck on a TII. When my car started heating up, the AC fan actually kicked in, so it is not just AC switch activated. Is it worth it $$$$$ to get the AC functioning again? I live in Connecticut and don't need it much as the car is a show car anyway. The AC stopped working years ago! I am removing it because from what I read, the AC system is prone to high failure on FC3S anyway. What would it take to get it running again? I have all the components! |

If you want some tips or information on how to wire up your electric fan, click on the "wiring an electric fan" link in my sig.
|
Functional AC does not require a dedicated AC fan.
|
If you are looking for an E-Fan you should check this out:
http://sneedspeedshop.com/store/view...idProduct=1015 This is one of the only E-Fans that I have found with a shroud, and the shroud is kind of important... |
I have tried contacting sneed speed shop 4 times about their fan in the past year. They never returned my emails. I asked how many running amps it pulled.
Also, it says 2100CFM. That is most likley at ZERO static pressure. Put that on a radiator, and you are not going to drop that down to about 1600 CFM. Do not get that fan and shroud setup. If you can, get ONLY the shroud and buy a different fan. [Click on the "Electric Fan Comparison Chart" in my sig for more information.. |
I can't really say for sure, but the E-Fan that they use looks like it is the Proform Universal. I am not trying to stick up for them or put them down as I have never used there product, but if someone has please let us know how it works because it is the most complete shroud I have ever seen (and it looks nice too).

Mercury mystique/ford contour fans. Duals, small draw (running) and the shourd fits aside from being ~1" too long.
Taurus fan is also a good fit, apparently anyways, I'm using the above so I can't tell you. |

It seems sneed speed shop changed their fan. They had a different fan before. Still they say its 2100cfm
but the E-Fan that they use looks like it is the Proform Universal. |
the sneedspeed efan is nothing more than something you can build yourself for a little less money. its a zirgo fan mounted to a aluminum shroud.
i did the same thing here https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/efan-shroud-w-pics-waddya-think-542693/ and ended up paying about $40 less than that kit your willing to buy. i havent had an issue since the install and if you look at my pic, i have both A/C and P/S in humid NC with not a single prob. definitely go with the efan and shroud, but build it yourself if you have the time and know how. go with the pull setting (like stock) and nothing bigger than 16" or it'll be too big. |

The A/C's performance is significantly improved by having a fan running when it's operational, particularly at low speed. Airflow through the condensor is critical to the system's efficiency.
I'm not debating it working at 100% efficiency, but its still functional without. |

Yeah, but mine was still completely functional and it wasn't factory equipped with it.
Most US cars didn't come with one if I'm not mistaken... Even my auto 91 didn't have one. |

I never said it wouldn't be, and that's irrelevant to the discussion anyway, so I don't know what your point is. The question was about removing the fan and the A/C, not just the fan.
You are. Actually I'll bet it did when it was new, it just didn't have it when you got it. I'm sure things might be a bit different in NZ... but, both of the auto S5's and all three of the 91 NA's's I've had.. and the 86 base I had.... none of them had an AC fan.. and they were all bone stock when I bought them. Sorry for going off topic. |
ts a zirgo fan mounted to a aluminum shroud. Zirgo fans are rated for way more CFM then 2100. They are over 3000 cfm. |

I looked for the shroud only and not the fan, but didnt see it at speedshop there. I am in need of a shroud. Some of you will say make it, but where to start? Where to buy the material? Summit does have a universal shroud.

As far as the AC Service, well, I think I am up for the challenge on trying to service it and getting it working. I would have to reinstall everything. Where do I start from reinstallation? Freon? System oil? |
i have a Q
does the KOYO have the spots for the stock sensors>? |
I using the flexilight 180 (3300 cfm w/18 amp draw ) . This unit has a relay to run your fan when the A/C is on. I don't see a problem with running the fan in the same circuit as your A/C as long as you run a relay in it. Infact I just looked at a wiring diagram for a 2004 Honda Pilot and they run the the fan off a relay that runs in the same circuit as the A/C. No issues here.
Thanks Robert |
