need a quick answer ! please read .

will the 86-88 flywheels work on 89-91 na's ? racing beat has them as two diff parts numbers ? are they compatibale , if not why ? thanx

RETed 02-22-02 03:42 PM

Stock flywheels?&nbsp No.
Aftermarket flywheels that require (auto trans) counterweights?&nbsp Yes.

The stock flywheels have the counterweights integrated with it.&nbsp So differing weight rotors (1986-1988 Zenki versus 1989-1991 Kouki) NEED different stock flywheels.&nbsp Aftermarket flywheels have no integrated counterweight - they use the appropriate year (Zenki or Kouki) auto trans counterweight to give it the right balance.

so Ted what your telling me is that the racing beat 12# aluminum flywheel and counterweight that is an someones 86 na will fit on my 90 na ? i hope thats what your telling me . lol ... Ted Koseki strikes once again in a clutch situation .

RETed 02-22-02 03:57 PM

Yes and no.&nbsp You can use the 13@ aluminum flywheel, but you'll need a new counterweight for your 86NA.

i have the 90 na and i just purchased the racing beat flywheel that was on the 86na . so what i have to do is purchase the racingbeat countereight that they have for the 89-91 models b/c the counterweight i have is for the 86-88 models . so basicaly the actuall flywheels are the same for 86-91 but the counterweights from the 86-88 and 89-91 models differ . so basically i need the 89-91 counterweight and its all good ? i hope i got it right this time . i really appreciate your help Ted . thanx a lot

RETed 02-22-02 04:47 PM

Yep, that's exactly it.&nbsp Man, I can't type for crap today!&nbsp I dunno how I got "13@" when it was supposed to be "12#"! :)

Just to complete this thought.....

The Aluminum or Lighten Steel aftermarket flywheels are different between NA's and T2's.

AND, the counterweight in both cases comes from Automatic versions of your car. So, you could save a few bucks by going to a wrecking yard and pull from a same Series Auto Rex.

A T2 counterweight will do far more damage to your wallet. No T2 Auto Rex's were imported to the US. But, might get lucky from a Jspec engine dealer.

so all i have to do is get a counterweight from a 1990 automatic 90 ..damn that will save me some money .. thanx a lot . oh yeah i do have an na

Yer welcome

Actually, check e-bay too. I got one for $15 and another $15 for shipping (heavy buggers). I love my friends at Mazdatrix and Racing Beat. But $30 vs. $145, my wallet talks louder with that difference.
