Need help with an electrical problem

Hi guys. I was driving home from work last friday night, all of about a 15 minute trip through light traffic. About halfway home, idling at some lights my revs dropped significantly, and my tacho started bouncing from 0.5-4k rpm, although it resumed normal function when I started moving again. I tried limping it home, but it stalled just down the block hehe. I limped it the rest of the way home the next morning when I didn't need headlights and I haven't touched it since.

I've had some intimittent battery draining problems this year aswell, although the car doesn't get driven very often.

Just curious if other people have had this happen, and what the problem was?

I've never encountered that problem, but I would suggest a test of the electrical system to start. If you don't have the tools, have someone check the battery condition and alternator output, and make certain the alt belt it very tight. Don't know what the weather is over there, but in the US with the cooler temps, and less daylight, (heater on, lights on) the alternator needs to keep the battery up to snuff, and I've see many times over the years, a loose, slipping belt will not maintain a charge in the battery, and over time will drain the battery.

Are you exaggerating the tach bouncing?
I've never heard of a tach bouncing from 500RPM all the way up to 4,000RPM unless you're using your foot!

I'd start with a good check of the CAS & ignition system if you've verified the basic electrical components are good (battery, alt, the charging wiring, the grounds).
