First of all you WILL have to lower the subframe. its like 4 bolts/nuts and that link on the driver's side. Then the Two rear mounts(doughnuts) and the front mount is held onto the subframe. I'd suggest you get a friend when you finally drop the diff. They be heavy!

DO I have to drop it completly or losen it up enough to get the diff out? The subframe is a HUGE PITA to drop I know I put it up, but with the diff attatched. So what do I use to drop the subframe?? God this is gonna suck

I have done it four times. I used 2 stands and 3 jacks. the stands hold the body up. You put two jacks on the sub-frame and one on the flat spot on the diff. You don't have to completly remove it but I did. It took me like 6 hours total. NOTE: I was by myself. Get a few friends and its down to around 3.

It's really not that hard to do.

If you've already got the driveshaft and axles out of the way, just unbolt the shocks, sway bar, the center link (driver's side next to/behind diff) and the 4 diff mounts - 2 for the subframe, 2 for the diff. Leave the car on jackstands and lower it with a jack right under the center section (flat part) of the diff. A second jack under the center of the subframe makes it a little easier, but it's not required.

I did both. My base model has a TII suspension/brake setup AND a V8. The rear diff was among the first changes I made, and other than it being heavy, the whole thing was very straightforward.

And guys, please don't have this thrown into the "other engine conversions" forum. I'm not trying to hijack the thread or **** anyone off. Just stating an opinion as someone who has done the diff swap so I know what's involved.

I change on average 1 motor a month... If I had to choose, I would rather yank a motor then mess with that god forsaken subframe.

And dont look at me, I dont flame people for engine conversions...

its not bad at all, I did it friday night to change rear-ends. It took about four hours to drop the subframe, take out the rear-end, and put the other one in. And this was my first time doing it. I could do it in half that time now.
