N/A FC Turbo Kit?!
 

First off, I would like to say hi to all. I am new here. I just recently bought a Red 1986 GXL. I love it :)

I searched around the forums for a bit and didn't find anything at all, so I figured I'd ask you all! I also was not sure where exactly to post this (the single turbo section, N/A section, FC section, etc...) so I figured the safest bet would be in the FC section. Please, correct me if there would be a better place to post this as I'm still pretty new to the whole forum thing.

Now, onto the point of this thread:

Yesterday (out of boredom), I was searching around on the web, looking for stuff that I could do to my FC, more dreaming than anything, really. I happened to stumble onto an interesting find. I have read all over the forums here that there are no turbo kits available for the N/A FC. So I was confused to find this:

Speed Daddy FC RX-7 13B Turbo Kit

It doesn't say anywhere specifically for the Natural Aspirated RX-7. So I was just wondering if this would be a viable option for us N/A FC Owners with dreams of Turbos.

no. searching is a delicate art that once you master is invaluable. every single thing you would ever need to know has been answered.

well kelly good thinking. however there is one thing you have to think of. look at the way a turbo 2 intake manifold is designed and look at the way a non turbo manifold is designed.

2nd, that kit is junk. it costs the same as the turbo itself should cost, so that right there is a red flag. 2nd, you dont need nearly half that crap. seriously... an oil cooler?


this is a real turbo kit. for an rx7 specifically designed by people who know rx7's.

Whoever assembled that kit in the original post and labeled it for RX-7s has no clue about these cars. RX-7s come stock with an oil cooler that is more than up to the task of cooling the oil in a rotary.

Turbocharging an N/A is possible. Look for threads started by Aaron Cake for good ways to do it. Swapping in a TII engine/driveline is also possible and is currently the most overplayed thing done to N/As. If you need more power, odds are it would have been easier to start with a TII.

I definitely wasn't planning on ricing it out, or even drifting it into a wall for that matter :lol:
When I got the car, the cats were completely hollow, so it sounded like a Honda ricepack LOL. I hated it. But she's all better now :)


Is there a specific way to search to really get the results you want? Or is it more of a trial and error to see what works and what doesn't?


Oh wow. Very different designs. So when turbo-ing an N/A, you would need the intake manifold to look similar to the Turbo 2 design?

And I noticed that that turbo kit appears to be for already turbo-ed RX-7. Especially considering that it says you can install it in 2-3 hours.

I saw Aaron's website on turbo-ing the N/A when I was reading through the FAQ's. That's why I was so confused when I saw the "RX-7 Turbo Kit."

I probably won't turbo my N/A. If I really want the power of a turbo-ed FC, I'll buy a Turbo 2, or maybe even an FD :)

well, intake manifold doesnt matter at all. the problem is that id you wish to keep the stock intake for a non turbo, you will end up not having much room at all.

just get a t2 motor, rebuild it and drop it in.
there are some details im leaving out. but its been done plenty of times im sure.

to aid search, i normally select thread titles only, then its a guessing game like trying to google and use keywords.

i do my searches using google sometimes, rx7club and then whatever i want to search, it's yielded me with much better results sometimes

and of course, welcome to the club!
