My security system Lives!!!!! sort of....

Ok it has been raining here is nj for the past week and it may have helped my car work better. I got in my car today and out of the corner of my eye i saw my security light flash. I had a previous post and though my cpu needed a rebuild becouse i could not get my security system to work. So anyway I tried to activate it (turn key on off, then lock door from inside close with handle up outside)...nothing. I pop the hood and the security light flashed did some wierd flash. So i think maybe i have a bad hood switch for the security. Check the manual and if the hood is closed no continuity on switch so i just unplug it to make the car think the hood is closed no matter what. Go in car try to activate again. It works. Security stays lite till i close the door then starts its blinking routine after i close the door. Great! Go to unlock door with the key from the outside. Alarm starts going off. Key wont disarm it from drivers door. Get in car wont start or stop beeping. After like 3mins i just decided to put the key in the trunk. Turned it to unlock and it shuts off. I also notice that my oil pressure guage is reading above max psi which is strange becouse that never worked either and didn't even think it was hooked to the pressure sensor. Anyway i set it again and same thing next time i try to open doors. So i turn it off with the trunk lock. Drive the car home and the seatbelt light is blinking ever though i have my belts buckled. Now the sad part... get home alarm wont set. Tried like a hundred times. Turn on off open door lock door. No light but car starts to beep at me. No pauses just beep beep beep.... If i pop the trunk beeping stops. Also if a turn the key to the on position now my seatbelt light blinks and car beeps at me until i buckle up. Light will still blink after i buckle. Oil pressure guage stoped working again.
What the heck is going on?
Summary:
Why would my alarm work after raining for days then stop again.
Why does car beep at me when i try to set the alarm?
Sorry for long post.
oh ya i have a 91 coupe NA.

the light should flash on with each opening of the hood or trunk. That indicates the sensor is working for that opening.

As far as the oil pressure gauge, it would appear as if the sensor has failed, or the wire to it or the condensor is grounded/shorted.

Ok i think there is a short in my wire for the oil pressure that is also somehow affecting my security system. Im sure that the wires for the security system are no where near the wires for the oil press. But all i can say uis that if my press. sensor works and when i say works reads all the way past 100 psi the hole time the alarm works. When the needle doesn't move the car beeps wioth no stop when i try to set the alarm. Where are the wires for the oil pressure sensor and where do the run to and from?
Thanx

wow man i wish i could help you

sounds like your electronics are all fucked up -- wtf is up with the alarm being turned off by unlockin the trunk?

driftin8ez 10-15-05 11:04 PM

Ok i think i got this thing beat or how to get it beat. I have searched the service manual and cant find what harness the oil press. wire runs to but i think i will have my answer as to what is going on if i find it. Ok somewhere on my car is a harness of wires just barely connected. I went from this morning having a fully operational security system. All doors hood and trunk will set off the alarm as well as being able to shut the alarm off from the drivers door. The deactivation switch fell of so i just popped it back in place and it worked again, to a completely dead system. Did not touch one thing only took the car for a few laps around my block. Now securty system is completely dead no beeps blinks or anything. Also my oil press. guage is pegged to the max with the car not even running. So the must be a group of wires somewhere that are freyed or just barley connected. Anyone have any idea where this harnesss could be? under the dash? Under the hood? Please any suggestioned will help i lost.

silly me. My oil press. sensor was unplugged. No i find could only find this mystery couple of wires that are srewing up my security system and making it work sometimes and not others.

driftin8ez 10-16-05 11:06 AM

Well on some s5's there was a alarm switch in the trunk cyclinder as well as both doors. I think i've come to the conclusion that my cpu needs a rebuild. Here are the thing that go caput when my alarm stops working. Key cyclinder light, any beeps what so ever. My clock seems to have been reset. Now my hazards and turns dont work after fiddling with the wires to try and get the key cyclinder light to work. Looks like a need icemark to rebuild my cpu. Soon as i get some cash.

Icemark 10-16-05 01:11 PM

try just unplugging and plugging it back in first, just incase its a bad connector.

But if that fails then yep, send it in

driftin8ez 10-16-05 10:08 PM

Hey icemark or anyone who knows the answer. Does the wire coming out of the cpu go straight to the part being controlled by it? Like say the key cyclinder light? Does it go sort of like this. Door opens, door switch tells cpu, cpu tells interior lights to go on, Including the key cyclinder light.

Icemark 10-16-05 10:51 PM

yeah basicly

For the door cyl light its more, door handle switch, feeds CPU, which feeds key lights on delay circuit.

For the interior lights, its more door switch feeds dome lights and CPU, CPU feeds key lights

driftin8ez 10-16-05 10:58 PM

why i ask? Just trying to figure if i know the key cyclinder light and the hazards and the blinkers and the security system work could the cpu be working and there is just a common connection somewhere else that is messing everything up. Or is it just those couple or connectors at the cpu that are messing everything up.

Icemark 10-16-05 11:01 PM

the turns and hazards are on a different circuit board and power circuit than the key lights

driftin8ez 10-16-05 11:40 PM

still connected to the cpu though right? Ill go out tom. and try and reconnect all the plugs. hope it works.
Thanx

Icemark 10-17-05 12:20 AM

No, not connected internally in the CPU. Different plugs and only mounted in the same housing.

In no way, shape or form are they electrically connected.

driftin8ez 10-17-05 09:00 AM

ya thats what i ment. Sorry. I know the cpu have 2 or 3 separate circuit boards inside.

driftin8ez 10-17-05 11:50 AM

is there anyway to bench test the cou before i send it to you? I dont think my cpu is the prob. When i turn on the blinkers the cpu clicks real fast but the lights dont light. Also the hazard button doesn't work and the clock sometimes flashes and resets.

Icemark 10-17-05 12:10 PM

The clock flashing and resetting is a bad Clock/warning panel and has nothing to do with the CPU.

If the turn signals are not working based on your description, then you probably have a bad turn signal flasher board on the CPU.

Two different things though

driftin8ez 10-17-05 12:47 PM

Also i have noticed that when i turn my key to on the hole warning panel lights up execpt for my seatbelt light???? Is there anyway to bench test the cpu?

SureShot 10-17-05 01:34 PM

Some long shot things to check:
1) Swap out the room fuse. If it's intermittant or weak you get those combined alarm & clock symtoms. (BTDT)
2) Check for loose or rusty harness ground eyelets.

driftin8ez 10-17-05 02:01 PM

ill switch the fuse. also where are these ground eyelets?

That again would be a bad Clock/warning panel, not a CPU

Skiles2070 10-17-05 02:08 PM

hey atleast your stuff works, one day I (more like a friend of mine) left the passenger door unlocked and someone broke in and stole my stereo and ever since then my alarm won't turn on and every time I shut off my car really fast the horn honks. I am going to try all the things listed on this to try and get my to work again.

driftin8ez 10-17-05 04:52 PM

Ill try and clean the contacts on the relays for the blinkers to see if that helps. Also when i push my hazard button nothing happens. Could that be the cause of why my blinkers dont light up. Only the cpu clicks? Does the wires for the blinkers run from the cpu through the hazard button to the lights?

Icemark 10-17-05 06:45 PM

The flasher board in the CPU controls both the Hazards and the turn signals.

There is an input for left and right turn signals as well as hazard (which flashes both left and right turn signals).

There is also power and ground for inputs.

Then for outputs there are left and right turn signals and hazard indicator (although on S5 and S6 models there is no wire for the hazard light indicator in the plug- but ignore that it does not matter in the trouble shooting we are doing here).

Clicking but no indicators or bulbs shows that the internal relays are working, however there are either bad bulbs (yes all 6) or a bad solder joint on the flasher board, or bad plugs/connections in the car.

driftin8ez 10-17-05 08:20 PM

ok here is my next question.... When my security stopped working i started to wiggle the wires by the cpu to see if i could get it working. By doing this i realize i may have messed up my solder joints inside the cpu but here is my question. Is it possible by wiggling these wire i disconnected the wires on the other end? Or are these wires straight thought to there destination. Like does it go from the cpu board to wire harness connector to anouther connector close by then to the lights say. Or does it go cpu board to wire harness connectorto lights.
thanx for the help so far you guys are great.

*edit also is there anyway i can check the haz button at the connector? Becouse the hazard button does nothing where as the turn signals at least make the thing click.
