My housings Pics

Opened the used motor I bought so I can refresh it. The motor had 95 PSI on both rotors. Looks like it may have pinged and chipped of a piece of the housing. The engine had GSL-SE rotors, and a nice street port. I paid $500 for it, and it had with a to4B installed.

Do you guys think the housings are reusable?

(Edit for signature violation)

I believe that chrome chip is probably ok. Any scaring?

Kevin Landers is probably the guy you want to ask here on forum. He's our local builder so he'll probably talk to you soon enough.

PS- You gonna make any more lexan roofs? I'm in need of one for my GTU.

felixwankel88 03-09-05 04:33 PM

dammmmm, they look pretty dammm good... they look amazing that little 2 chrome chips are no biggie

luiml73 03-09-05 07:00 PM

No scaring Santiago, and no more sunroofs either.... Sorry

My fiends also thought they where in pretty good condition. I was just a little worried bout those little chips.

BTW: I just read your sig Felix.. What happened? I saw the slideshow, and I thought everything was oK.

I'm rebuiling mine alone aswell:D RA Video on one laptop, Atikins video on the other. (I converted the vids to Mpegs)

Kevin, you in here buddy?

RotaryEvolution 03-09-05 08:11 PM

the closest rotor housing doesn't look to be in good shape, that line where the chip is indicates that the apex seal had been jumping over that spot, it will result in a loss of compression and power, the chip may be repairable so that the seal won't jump over that area but the pics do not give much to the imagination of what kind of problem those nicks represent.

it doesn't look all that bad but i would be concerned about it.

the dark shaded area below the nick is carbon from blowby of the apex seal, what were the compression number before teardown?

luiml73 03-09-05 09:27 PM

95, 95

PLEASE BEVEL THE CLOSING EDGE of the exhaust ports! The housings are quite useable IMO other than that.

*edit* the chipping is nothing. I guarantee you, if most of the members in here who are concerned with your chips saw the housings in my current engine, they would freak out! We're talking mega chrome flaking off the edges, ~2mm wide and about 10" long in places. The motor runs better than ever. A friend of mine took a vid of the car autocrossing where I wind up first and second gear on a straight, and it definately gets up for an NA FC.

torean 03-10-05 02:17 AM

i think someone should suggest him to use new housings.......

jacobcartmill 03-10-05 03:31 AM

*waiting for the 'new housings nazi's' to post*

I want new housings...really that one spot concerns me a bit, but otherwise they look to be in pretty good condition.

Those housings look fine to me. If a bit of chrome is missing there it wont hurt it. What you need to look for is in the area where that chip is, all around the housing, is there alot of wear? Usually bad housings will have like an eighth of an inch worn in all around.

My housings have a small chip here and there like that and i was told they were perfect by Adam at rx7 specialties. He knows his stuff 4 sure.

Here is a better pic of that housing. The other housing has no chips.

RotaryEvolution 03-11-05 01:26 AM

looks like it was dropped, are those chips raised into the rotor housing, like if you run a straightedge across it does it catch or lift up in those spots?

and yes, definitely if you use them, BEVEL THE CLOSING EDGES! ;) seen way too many pics of chunked up apex seals and trashed housings from not beveling the trailing edges on ports.

luiml73 03-11-05 08:26 AM

No it does'nt catch

BEVEL THE CLOSING EDGES ????

88IntegraLS 03-11-05 10:26 AM

Closing edge is the top edge of the exhaust ports. All stock exhaust ports have 2mm bevel all around to protect the apex seals when they close the ports.
