my first mod... peep my skillzzz

my FC is just a little better than it was yesterday; the front side markers are now blinkers, too.

I followed these fool-proof instructions...
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...rkerflash.html

tools used: test light, wire strippers, pliers.
parts used: wire, various butt connectors.

1SxyRXy 03-04-04 12:35 AM

bah... who needs it

J-Rat 03-04-04 12:44 AM

wow.. That was negative.

tie pilot 03-04-04 01:06 AM

lol. it's ok. I actually sat here tonite and thought about it long and hard... and I don't know if it really helps other drivers at all. one possibility: traffic on the highway which is beside me and just a little behind (but not far enough back to see the rears). still, I'm not the kind of guy who would plow into someone anyway.

but it's an improvement. I figure it'll raise the resale value a g or so.

Id say more like $800, $900 if you are lucky.

Kudos for doing this and taking the time to do a write-up with provided pics for the text-only challenged.

tie pilot 03-04-04 01:25 AM

oh god, I didn't do that writeup. it is good though isn't it? I love those kinds of schematics; two objects, a couple of leads... no problem :)

it was really easy on the FC too, with the hood raised and the headlights up. the only snag was the passenger side, as there was not a lot of slack at all going to the side marker. I finally unbolted the air filter box and lifted it out of the way so I could attack the side marker wiring from above. still a piece of cake, even for me (read: dumb with cars).

Project84 03-04-04 01:32 AM

you know, its not every day you read a new thread. Usually its the same old "did I blow an apex seal" or "my coolant temp is climbing, what should I do?" and the occasional "what color should I paint my car?" poll. Its refreshing to see new information. I commend your ingenuity and I plan on doing this mod to my car.

88IntegraLS 03-04-04 02:10 AM

Yeah you punks, kudos to this guy for providing us with something we don't see every day. Marker light blinkers are spec'd on european cars for safety . . so you can see if someone is about to cut you off when you are in their blind spot along side them.

Bwahahaha. FCs rule. It's nice to see a someone making a real improvement to their car on this forum for once!! :p: :o: :D

bingoboy 03-04-04 03:12 AM

awesome, gonna have to try this. looks simple enough and i already have everything i need :)

Nice update of adding a modern feature to an 80s-early 90s car! Maybe this feature will find its way into mine as well...

DerangedHermit 03-04-04 08:12 AM

Nicely done on the mod, especially considering it's your first. Nice write up also.

Chimeron 03-04-04 08:24 AM

Sounds simple, might have to do it to mine too.

Actually the US seems to be about the only market that doesn't fit these to all cars. I don't know how you guys survive without them... :(

BDoty311 03-04-04 09:23 PM

It would be most helpful for getting onto the highway, that way cars on the highway know you want to get over. Nice idea, good thread.

soyo 03-04-04 09:37 PM

its cool and all, but flashing side markers aren't worth my time

Mike86 03-04-04 11:06 PM

That's neat. Very individual touch. :)

yeah I know. as I see it, the road is just another place (possibly the BEST place, what with the risk to life and limb) to excercise the golden rule.

I really don't wanna get started on bad and rude drivers, but I will say that driving etiquette is something parents should teach their children. my dad is the best driver I know.

andrew lohaus 03-04-04 11:49 PM

thats sweet man. very clever. id love to see that in person. you should come out to the autocross on sunday and meet some of the other rx7 guys in town. even if you dont drive its fun just to watch.

Yeah you should of tried to make blinking middle fingers
:flipoff:
then people would get the idea

soyo 03-05-04 12:18 AM

I can't stand people that dont use thier blinkers, I just wanna give them a bumper sticker that says "I can't push up/down a little knob to be curdious to other drivers cuz I am one lazy piece of trash and shouldn't be allowed to own a car" but I doubt that would fit on the bumper :)

asuka42227 03-05-04 12:26 AM

that's a great mod. will be doing it to mine soon. I can't stand people that don't use their blinkers either. If I were a cop, I'd get kicked off the force for citing nothing but failure to signal intent. And for making people respect mah authoritah.
