My car wont start??
My car wont start. Anyone know why? It has gas in the tank. Whats wrong?
|
It's becuase your screen name is V8-RX7...just kidding.
Seriously, we need more information about your car, it's symptons (is it getting spark, etc) |
is it getting spark? I dont know. My car is a 1986 Mazda Rx7. It wont start at all. It just started this today.
6 minutes... |
Go unplug the EGI fuse and pull a spark plug out and ground it out to the frame (dont hold it) and crank the car once or twice to see if it arcs onto the frame...
|
what is an EGI fuse? I dont work on motors and I dont know where the spark plug is. How do I find it?
|
You mins well call in sick because you're going to be here a long time.
1) The EGI fuse (those little yellow, red, blue plastic things in the black box below your feet) will disable the injectors that way when you turn it over it doesnt throw fuel all over the spark plugs when the spark plugs are on the chasis grounding out and make a nice fireball. 2) The spark plugs are what spark the combustion process (ignite the fuel, blahblah) they are where the blue/black wires run to, you know the big long ones (spark plug wires). - Tech |
Fuck, im late now. I will call them and tell them my fuse is bad and I wont be able to go in. I will go check for spark plugs things in a minute. Thank you for your help
|
Ok i see 2 big blue wire big black wires on teh drivers side. They go from 2 seperate little boxes down to the motor i think. Now what?
I cant find any blue red yellow plastic things by my feet. |
the egi fuse is in the engine bay in the fuse box
if you refer to here theres alot of helpful things https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/faq-fc-frequently-asked-questions-2nd-generation-rx-7-a-181219/ go down to where it shows the cover to the fuse boxes, the EGI comp if i rememeber correctly is the one that you want to pull out, the 30A also check to make sure that none of your fuses are blown, does your car make a clicking sound whwen u try to start it? Does the engine even turn over at all? |
I dont know what a nub, or a posts is. I really dont work on cars very much. I clean the windows and stuff like that. Please let me know where to find the nub, and posts
|
Ok, I will go look real quick. What about the nub, and posts?
|
Ok i found a thing by the motor that says EGI on it. I took the cover off and there is a funny looking square thing there. Is this the egi fuse? I pulled on it and it came out. I thought I may have broke it but it goes right back in. Now what?>
|
nub = teh newbie
posts are how many times you post on the forum look underneath your name <------------itll tell you how many times you posted |
Geek i found the blue and black wire. What do you want me to do with them?
|
Oh ok. I thought a nub and posts were bad on my car. My bad
|
The car is probably flooded. Have you followed the unflooding proceedure found in the FAQ for FC sticky thread at the top of this section?
You should read the FAQ for FC sticky thread before posting. |
did u take the cover off of the fuse box?? theres should be 6 fuses in it
|
icemark, I have no idea what you just said.
Zero, i took the cover off of something that said EGI on it. The drawing looked like the square things inside so I took out the square thing that was in teh same place as the EGI thing on the drawing. Now what? |
icemark it hasnt rained here in weeks. there is no way it was flooded. It did not start once in the rain before. It started up when I let it sit for a little bit
|
Flooded means you have too much gas in the engine
|
this is what icemark was refering to, like how i said to go to that link that i previously putted in
"My car doesn't start Remember when starting a fuel injected car you should never pump or press the accellerator pedal, but if it won't start it is probably flooded, Hold the accelerator pedal all the way down while cranking, do not pump the pedal. If it still doesn't start after a few tries, Then remove the EGI fuse and crank a couple more times, then re-install the fuse and try starting again. If then the car still fails to start it then you need to remove and clean the spark plugs, put in a teaspoon of ATF into the lower sparkplug holes, re-install the spark plugs and try again. Make sure you change your oil after you have started and run the car ASAP." |
about half way down this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=181219 you will find how to unflood the car.
|
^hehe i beat you to it
|
Sorry i didnt know what you meant when you said flooded. I will go try to start it without that fuse in there. I hope its not flooded. I dont even know how to change my oil. I have had the car for 4 years and have never changed the oil.
