motor rebuild question
so if i were to attempt to rebuild a motor from an 88 rx7 what exact parts should i buy and where can i get all the parts from? Does anyone have an exact list of every single part needed for this? i have a spare blown motor laying around figured it would be a good winter project to learn how to rebuild one of these motors. Figured lots of pictures as it comes apart and hanes manual should help me through the project. i just want to get a list of all the parts i should get so i can have everything at once, not hafta stop mid day in project to get parts. Thanks

I'll give you a list of parts if you give me a list of what's out of spec/broken. Unless you're changing EVERYTHING (including apex seals, side seals, corner seals, bearings, etc.) there's no way to know until it's apart. Bare minimum will be a soft seal kit (including oil pan gasket, front cover gasket, aka soft seals) as well as water seals, oil ring O-rings, apex seal springs, side seal springs, corner seal springs, corner seal plugs and front and rear main seals.

http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/pr...roductid=16840 would that cover everything i need?
http://www.atkinsrotary.com/store/pr...cat=591&page=1 or would that be better? |
the more expensive kit comes with the front thrust bearings, normally they dont need to be replaced.

i have all the parts for the rebuild from atkins i rebuilt my motor put 1600 miles on it then lost a rotor bearing due to a popped oil cooler line, all seals are good i have another rebuilt motor from my buddy we turbo swapped his vert

To answer your question.....the atkins rebuild kit is complete, assuming your rotors or housings are out of spec. Crack it open and micrometer it up.
