Manual Seatbelts
Can someone explain what parts are needed exactly to swap out the power seatbelts
in the S5 for manual? |
All you need are the belts with the retractor reel and the receiver.
And a shitton of patience/creativity. Bolting in the belts is easy, it's a direct fit into existing bolt holes (how convenient). Fitting the trim plastic is the tricky bit. You must use your original trim, the S4 manual plastic will not fit properly. Once you remove the mousetrack runner, there is nothing to fasten the A-pillar trim to anymore, so you'll have to figure something out there. You'll need to cut a hole in the upper B-pillar trim to access the upper shoulder belt bolt and you'll need to trim the lower B-pillar trim- right where it meets the upper trim- to allow the belt from the retractor to come out. You can use your center console (which you'll be removing to delete the big retractor reel) but it'll look a little odd after removing the reel because it has recesses that no longer make sense, but it's not a big deal. I've made this conversion twice now and recommend you make life easy and BEGIN by removing the seats and all the plastic...it might appear to be overkill but really does make life simpler. |
Is this using your random junk yard donor car methodology or belts from an older RX7?

I have carpet coming. Need to find reclining aftermarket seats that fit the FC. |

Refitting the plastics is the tricky part, the A-pillar trim being the most difficult (because you've removed all its mounting points). |

What's the difference between the two? They'd be the same age no matter where the car sits.

I used S4 manual belts, which, as stated, are direct bolt ins. Refitting the plastics is the tricky part, the A-pillar trim being the most difficult (because you've removed all its mounting points).

Have a set of s4 belts and hardware to share?
I've never had to try belts from another donor (a fetish of mine that Tony cites), so I can't even recommend a potential workaround. Canadian S5s had manual belts, maybe misterstyx has some in his famous shed? |

There hasn't been a FC in my yard for a few years now so, sorry, no. I've never had to try belts from another donor (a fetish of mine that Tony cites), so I can't even recommend a potential workaround. Canadian S5s had manual belts, maybe misterstyx has some in his famous shed?

Canadian S5s would give you complete interior trim and belts to get a more finished look, but like clokker said, rare to see these cars in yards anymore. I haven't seen one in years. |
Pm Received.
I got the belts..but somewhere..(ya,my organizational skills suck.) I JUST got the 302 Swap going TODAY!..Yay!!!!...and am adamant on getting that going so I can at least get one meet in this year, hopefully. I cannot promise you anything solid as far as parts right now, along with A GREEN looking for his Auto shifter..I have good intentions to let you know I have the parts but I may not be able to deliver as I am trying to get MY Lawn ornament out and driving! All I can say if I see them I'll let ya know. |
@remydrm...bribe styxie with some Tim Horton's coupons.
Canadiens cannot resist them. |
Does someone need an auto shifter? I have one and know where it's at.
