Look at PICTURE and tell me what's wrong with this Transmission.

Where did the sleeve on the input shaft come from?

KillaKitiie 01-04-07 05:27 PM

maybe its whats left of the throwout bearing?

spot_skater 01-04-07 05:46 PM

Throwout bearings, at least for the TII and NA RX7 transmissions are not that long. Unless my depth perception is off.

LUPE 01-04-07 05:49 PM

I don't think that's part of the throw out bearing.......

KillaKitiie 01-04-07 05:49 PM

I know but what else could it have came from?

Slammedblk7 01-04-07 05:54 PM

That appears to be broken off from an E-shaft

gxl87turbo 01-04-07 05:54 PM

Did it come off a running car like that? Theres no way that was on there with a stock fc clutch

Evil Aviator 01-04-07 05:54 PM

It looks like part of the transmission front cover broke off.

gxl87turbo 01-04-07 05:57 PM

That piece is off the tranny, It cant be the e-shaft theres no way.

citrusmagic 01-04-07 05:58 PM

I'll be honest with you man. That part of the tranny looks messed up!

scathcart 01-04-07 05:59 PM

That is a piece of the transmission front cover that broke off. Its purpose is to give the throw out bearing a shaft to slide on.

TII-aholic 01-04-07 06:00 PM

looks liek the condom broke....now your gonna have little transmissions popping outta your motor.

jgrewe 01-04-07 06:01 PM

Its from the front cover. the throw out bearing rides on it. See the jagged edge around the input shaft? That's where it came from. It can be fixed no problem with a new or used piece.

Slammedblk7 01-04-07 06:02 PM

Ah YES! the t/o bearing does slide on that part

LUPE 01-04-07 06:16 PM

Alright, so that transmission is shot then, right?

scathcart 01-04-07 06:21 PM

No. You can replace that part via the bolts in the bellhousing.

The question is, how did this happen, and what other damage occurred?

mort2002 01-04-07 06:25 PM

its actually quiet easy to fix.... i would imagine it happened from a bad throwout bearing and it jammed on the shaft, than when the clutch was pushed it kinda bent a broke if that make sense

Doc Holiday 01-05-07 04:46 PM

Does the input shaft have tons of play (bad bearing)? Or did the flywheel/clutch explode. There is no reason that should ever break.

johnrxt2 01-06-07 10:18 PM

eric i want to c pics of ur car, tim said its pretty nice little tin can

That is EXACTLY what it is you will have to buy the transmission front cover is what it is called.. I just sold one to my buddy about 2 weeks ago for his Datsun 240Z when u install the new one just put some sil-glide on the shaft NOT antiSLEEZE

Dave

SpooledupRacing 01-06-07 10:24 PM

btw it broke due to age.. I mean there is pressure on that and if it gets hot, or if your disc is throwing alot of dust it could be getting clogged on the throwout bearing and it caused it to get tough to push in and then snap off the nose..

phoenix7 01-06-07 11:07 PM

thanks for the laugh citrus. :rlaugh:

I wanted to say throwout bearing but it was too long. So how'd you break it?

I'm not sure how it broke, someone local is selling it for $25. I'm going to go ahead and buy it and install the new front cover.

Is that front cover the same on a NA Transmission?

I'm buying this for my new corolla.

Aaron Cake 01-10-07 01:34 PM

That's hilarious!

It's the front cover of the transmission (the "snout").

You can probably just replace the front cover and seal as long as the input shaft is still OK.

evil rust 01-10-07 02:42 PM

well theres your problem! See, the whatchyamacallit is chipped! Is this a guessing game? Was it a strange multi-plate clutch gone real bad?
