Lexan/CF Rear Hatch for FC?

Does anyone know of a company that makes a carbon fiber hatch with a lexan window for the FC?

91mazdarx7 10-15-04 08:29 PM

i dont know about the carbon fiber hatch but i know corksport sells lexan back windows

Hmm...that helps, still wanna lighten it a little more than that...do you know how many pounds that knocks off?

BC-X 10-20-04 07:39 PM

why would you want less weight over the rear wheels?

is your car a daily driver? if so, ..whats the point?

Not everything is about off the line drag racing performance.

The hatch and glass are extremely heavy and the weight is located in the worst place, at/near the top of the car. Not ideal for road racing etc.
Lighter is generally better.

100 lbs. shaved is good for about a .10 in th 1/4 mile if I remember correctly.

fc3s.org is working on the hatch frame I believe. I will definately be ordering one of those for my 20b car when the time comes.

IIRC the lexan shaves off 60lbs... Seems like alot though

What'll you do if your tire has a blowout?

Aren't you guys overlooking the fact that lexan gets scratched easily?

vipers 10-21-04 05:14 PM

^^^^ scratches very, very easy!!!! be careful washing your car...lol

SDrotary-FC 10-21-04 05:23 PM

I've never had a blowout in 12 years of driving.

That's what lexan polish/restoring compounds are for.

amishboy 10-21-04 05:44 PM

On a race car couldn't you just leave it out and put some kind of a net behind the front seat ? Like a little El Camino LOL

ajsuper7 10-21-04 05:56 PM

only saves 20lbs...hell anyone can save 20lbs on a diet...worthless mod for a street driven car.

RX-Heven 10-21-04 06:25 PM

I think that still uses the steel hatch frame.

The rear is not as likely to get messed up as the front.
Contrary to what many beleive, Lexan is pretty tough. You can use wipers on it as long as it stays fairly clean.

drago86 10-21-04 06:36 PM

The stock hatch is prety light,.. its thin glass with a light steel frame,.. its like less than 50 pounds total, so i dont see how you could save 60 pounds with a lexan one,....

13b_drifter 10-21-04 06:49 PM

Holy crap!!!
