Just Got My First Car (89' TII) [Pics]

I'm 16, and in NJ we cant get our liscences until 17, and even then thats only a provisional liscence, so I dont officially have a full liscence until i'm 18, but since theres only 2 seats, i cant really break any laws involving extra passengers, lol. Anyways, mid day Sunday I picked it up after getting it checked out and all, just got some pics of it today. My dad bought it for me, and he paid $2900, and he said he would buy me a paintjob if he could get the price down a bit (which he did, the final price was $2900, it started out as $3700). So i'm going to just get it painted the same color over again, cause theres some paint chipping going on. Its an 89' TII with 100k original miles, and 9k on a rebuilt engine. It came with a $250 pioneer cd player reciever, and two new pioneer speakers in the back. The speakers are decent, but I have to remount them because they shake too much. Anyways, you've probably seen a million FC's, but i'm just excited because this is my first car. Heres the pics...

:( Isn't your dady nice.

Josepi 08-12-03 02:35 PM

Nice car!

You're 16. Don't race on the streets and don't even go the limit in the rain. Keep it in between the lines.

JasonL 08-12-03 02:35 PM

Nice grab! Resale on that it alot more than $2900(at least where I live). Be carefull with it, I don't want to hear about you hitting a tree or curb with it while doing a mad drift :P

Ocelot 08-12-03 02:36 PM

Oops, somehow posted 3 times, can a mod please delete the other two?

JasonL 08-12-03 02:36 PM

Also, are you paying him back for it or was it a gift?

sectachrome 08-12-03 02:36 PM

yeah, you lucky spoiled bitch. i feel you about the stupid graduated license shit though.

Actually yes, he is very nice....dont post that roll eyes thing like i'm some spoiled kid who gets everything he wants. I consider myself extremely lucky to get this car from him. I didn't expect him to pay for any one piece of my car, but he was nice enough to save some extra money so he could buy a car that he could work on with his son....I'm like the farthest thing from spoiled, and I work hard to get things, its just nice to get such a great gift....besides, it was only $2800, i could see saying that if my dad bought me a brand new acura or something like all the other kids in my areas parents do, but whatever, i'm happy with it, so if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it...

BonsaiRX7 08-12-03 02:42 PM

awesome t2, take care of it ;)

1987RX7guy 08-12-03 02:43 PM

Not to sound full of myself or anything, but I consider myself a very responsible person. I work hard in school, i'm not some irresponsible punk. I drive pretty safely, and I plan on keeping all my racing to the tracks.

cloead 08-12-03 03:10 PM

heh.. im 15 and just got my t2.. but i paid for it myself..

also, expect to work on it, a lot

from maitenance to shit breaking every time you take it out.

ManGaZeRo 08-12-03 03:30 PM

Good shit for 2900 with a rebuilt that a pretty good price. Where I live I can barely find a s5 TII. Ey how much are you paying for insurance on that thing ne wais.

eViLRotor 08-12-03 03:36 PM

Nice TII...:)

ThinkGeoffrey 08-12-03 03:43 PM

Great score!

Find a Mazda service manual and read it till you can quote it!

Drive it with love and keep the rubber side down!

White_Seven 08-12-03 03:54 PM

Congrats on your 1st car, we all know you're gonna love it! ;)

I'm going to be put on my moms insurance, i'm just getting basic liability, cause collision would be a waste. It should be under $1k though, my mom called the insurance place and said for just liability its only a few hundred over my brothers car (89 corolla that you see in the pics) so not very much at all cause i get the good student discount and my mom has a flawless driving record

87RXGhey7 08-12-03 04:33 PM

bahhh...moo

87RXGhey7 08-12-03 04:34 PM

consider yourself lucky to have gotten a TII like that! :)
Looks clean!

hIGGI 08-12-03 04:35 PM

nice car dude, i just don`t think its safe to let kids drive cars ;o)

SupraDoom7 08-12-03 05:08 PM

Sweet ride man!

rx-7s rock 08-12-03 05:57 PM

Sweet TII. I got my N/A handed to me from my dad cuz he doesn't drive it anymore. Everyone does stupid shit with their first car, just be sure to keep it low on the stupid meter. My poor first car...I'm sorry 87' Accord!

Mills 08-12-03 06:14 PM

If ya take good care of it, your first car will hopefully be yer last!

Ryde _Or_Die 08-12-03 06:20 PM

Great find man. Make sure you change the oil ALOT. Especially at first.

Only thing I have to say is I would paint it a little different color. Like a deeper red, more towards burgandy(but not). Thats just my opinion though.

cloead 08-12-03 06:26 PM

or the best color..

BLACK :)

Well since I'm 18 and and bought my RX-7 with my own money, two years ago, and pay for my own insurance. I think that I'm farther from spoiled than you are. Nice car take care of her. :)

bingoboy 08-12-03 09:43 PM

nice car. take care of it. don't hurt it. don't race it, yet. don't break it. don't rice it :D. leave it stock until you understand what you are doing. keep the body oem on the outside for the most part. wash regularly and garage/cover it. do all the regularly scheduled maintenance at the scheduled times.
...and hopefully she will love you for a long time.

ilike2eatricers 08-12-03 10:06 PM

holy shit what happened to the second fc. Looks like it got t-boned by a big ass truck and then fell down a mountain. hope the driver made it out ok.

Kim 08-12-03 10:10 PM

Our Checzh buddy hIGGI, had been bleeding the brakes on his beater N/A, but it wasnt proberly done.
So when he decided to hit the brakes really hard and pull back in behind the bus he was overtaking, the car went sideways and yes got tboned by a truck.
Luckily hIGGI survived the crash and had to spend his birthday at the hospital:(

ilike2eatricers 08-12-03 10:16 PM

Higgi is one tough cookie.

2a+RoN 08-12-03 10:26 PM

Congrats man. I'm 17 and have had my TII for a year now (paid for it myself). They are fun cars, just make sure you keep up with the maintainance. I have learned so much since I got it. I didn't even know how to change the oil when I first got it, compared to now... just finished my streetported rebuild today that I did myself.

rx7 punk 08-12-03 11:07 PM

Im 16 and just got a 88 se i love it i just need a new clutch but yea my insurance is a butt rapping under my moms but i had to pay for mine

rx7 punk 08-12-03 11:10 PM

another thing i was thinking about doing the street porting myself is it really worth it? im not running headers but my cat did get swapped out for a nice pipe from home depot and it does give my car a much deeper throaty sound but would that effect a street port job at all?

That is an awesome first car, you're very lucky. Looks exactly like my new 91 TII, now I really can't wait till it gets here! Only a few more days left. Congrats on the car...

Flyby116 08-13-03 10:13 AM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2419480201

It was all stock when i bought it and had alot done with all my own money and bought it with my own money. But dont let people get to you about your dad buying it for you that was awsome of him! Anyway keep the car clean and do nothing but engine work :) You want a sleeper! lol

Nick

jgathome 08-13-03 10:38 AM

Nice grab, and people are right, new drivers make rooky mistakes (I hit a car that ran a red light with my first car) It was her fault, but I think with more exp and if I was driving slower I should have been able to avoid the accident.
--insurance paid for repairs, I later baught my TII and donated the repaird 91 Accord to my sister for her 16th birthday

wozzoom 08-13-03 11:02 AM

You have no idea how lucky you are! A series 5 Turbo II is becoming a very rare find. You sound like a very responsible individual. (IE: Didn't get all pissy when people flamed you about your age... You're cool in my book!)

My advice: Read the forum, enjoy working on the car with your dad, and come to the next Tri-State RX-7 get together to meet some fellow rotorheads in your area!

chexmix78 08-13-03 11:08 AM

Congratulations, that is a sweet ride, I would have loved that car at your age, just be careful with it. oh and I don’t see anything wrong with a dad helping his kid out, I mean I would help my child buy a car , I would rather give him money to help buy a quality car than have him buy a crappy car on his own. From then on he/she should be responsible for insurance/repairs etc. that is the way I did it.

That...was...awesome!
Sorry about your car man, that sucks.

Ocelot 08-13-03 12:13 PM

Yea I understand what everyone says about no matter what you do or how responsible you are, when you first get your liscence, your just not that experienced. Even if you follow every law, you forget to check your blind spots, or make some mistake like that, and bam, accident. Since I got my permit like a year ago, when i've gone somewhere with my dad, I think he's driven only once or twice. I take every chance I can get to practice with his car. Whenever we go out, I usually drive, and i've been doing that for about a year, so driving manual is becoming like an automatic reaction and I dont think about it that much anymore. Most people around here just use their permit to practice parallel parking a month before their test, and only drive every once and a while, like my sister. She's my twin, so were both going on the same day for our liscences, but she's driven on the road like 1/16th of the time i've been driving, so even if she gets her liscence, she has hardly any road experience on her hands.

DAN CARWIN 08-13-03 01:38 PM

just don't paint the interior White or Red or Blue and make it look ricey. the more mods you do to it the more it brings down the value of your car. keep it 100% stock

JGard18 08-13-03 01:58 PM

Congrats on the new car! I got my first 7 when I was 17, paid for it, myself (and it was my third car). It was an 88 GXL.

Had it for three years, loved it. Now I'm 24 and about to get another GXL :D
