Just got my exhuast done, would like some suggestions/ opinions!

Well I went and got my exhaust done today,
I am not 100% pleased with the work that was done,
but it is my fault I guess, I told the guy to have the tip match the back of the bumper, But I didn't relize it would look so akword,
I am pretty sure I am gunna go back and have him move it back alittle,
I just wanted to get some feedback to see what others thought,
( not feedback like, Get RB!!!! blah blah!! )
Just curious if you also think Is should change it, or just leave it
thanx guys!

go back and have him hack it off and reweld it he shouldn't charge you its not all that hard.

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 12:05 AM

incase anyone is wondering It is a tanabe rm muffler from a ae86, cut w/ custom piping from cat back, piping and welding and what not cost 128$.
muffler was free from a friend!

snowball 02-16-06 12:06 AM

back a bit would look better i agree.

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 12:33 AM

here is a verry crude photo chop of how I would like it to look,
any thoughts?

Jaiyurai 02-16-06 12:43 AM

wow... $128??? that better be 3" piping.. piping from just the cat back to the muffler costs like $30.

what is it? mild steel? stainless? mandrel bent?

DragonRx7 02-16-06 12:44 AM

I wouldn't put the exit before the bumper. Our cars (depending how modified) tend to shoot flames. I'd have the tip (just the smaller diameter part) come of right after the vertical line of the bumper.

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 01:14 AM

^ thats what I am thinking, ( my car shoots fire alot already ( misadj. tps)
and 128$ is cheap around here.
the best I could find actually,
Everywhere else was 140-160$,
it is mild steel I belive I had him make the exhaust as straight as possible, so it has 2 slight mandrel bends.

RboYi 02-16-06 01:20 AM

I think you should leave it where it is, most likely your bumper will get burnt. How does it sound?

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 01:22 AM

well someone had done some previous exhaust work,
so all it has left is one cat, and it honestly sounds amazing,
no raspy'ness whatso ever just a solid deep tone all the way to 8,
I am verry pleased with the sound but I miss the sound of a rotary I think I am gunna take my cat off.

eriksseven 02-16-06 01:28 AM

Huh...

I would have him cut it a little shorter. Also, is that as 'high' as it can be mounted? It looks pretty low and *kind of* akward... Regardless, you did it for the performance aspect, so looks are secondary. :)

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 01:31 AM

well the reason it is so low, is because of how far foward it is,
the "pan" of the muffler is at the end of the bumper, and that is bigger than the tip, so it had to hang lower, I think for right now I will just leave it, It doesn't look insanely retarded does it?

eriksseven 02-16-06 01:45 AM

Yeah... I guess it doesn't look *too* retarded, lol.

One thing that slightly bugs me (from a critical perspective) are the noticable 'weld' lines circling the diameter of the piping (behind and on? the muffler). It's obviously not as clean as an aftermarket exhaust setup, but overall it's not that bad. I wonder what it would look like if some, or all of it were painted a high-temp, low-gloss black?

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 01:47 AM

^ haha
I was thinking the exact same thing, doing from behind the muffler to- cat,
in a low gloss almost "flat" high temp black paint.

fcdrifter13 02-16-06 02:12 AM

Yeah a little mor up and and maybe angled up some. i never did like an exhaust that sits flat that you can see from the side of the car but thats just me.

lovingthefc3s 02-16-06 12:06 PM

yea bro, have him move it back an Inch and maby paint the piping black and the rear dirt guards red. Other wise, what the hell do you want if its not a complete system?

-Good-Luck, Dustin.

jhammons01 02-16-06 12:13 PM

I am sorry, the whole thing looks like shit and very Ricey.

The thing should be much higher in "Well" that is proviced. That thing should be hanging on the back of a Neon...........

fc3sdrifter121 02-16-06 05:21 PM

^lmao
I was waiting for that comment,
Its cool, It doesn't look great I agree, but I like it. and thats what matters the most!
So I dunno yet I will most lekely have him bring it back and up,
thanx for all the imputs guys!

eriksseven 02-16-06 05:31 PM

Sucks, but it might be hard to get it 'up' anymore, simply because the exhaust 'tunnels' are pretty narrow on an FC...

Noel Caraballo 02-16-06 06:13 PM

a shop by me did the same crap , but i got two mufflers put on, you can see the rods from the side, and now their covered in rust, im redoing it myself buying my own welder and tubbing with a fat ass apex n1 muffler so everyone can fear my flames

jerd_hambone 02-16-06 06:25 PM

it doesn't look completely horrible haha

like someone else said, looks arn't the reason for a performance exhaust.

if it sounds decent and performs better than stock, you have no worries

iceblue 02-16-06 06:54 PM

I payd 50$ for just a 3ft piece of 3in aluminized exhaust pipe. So yea most jobs are a min of 75$

NeCr0mStR 02-16-06 07:07 PM

if your car shoots fire already.... I would have it stay in place and maybe even tilt down a little so you don't have a CRISPEE bumper... that would suck... get out and smell something smoldering... OH SHIT MY CAR IS ON FIRE!!!!

hehe

Jager 02-16-06 11:38 PM

Next time don't bring it to the shop, thats my opinion.

fc3sdrifter121 02-17-06 11:48 AM

Well as soon as I can weld and have a mandrel bender and pipe and a lift, I won't.
