"jdm" mirrors, who likes them

in japan the FCs only got 1 style of mirrors (that i am sure of) and its the ones we got 1 year (i think it was 89) the ones that you can fold back. who likes them, who doesint? i like them alot.
my friend hates them, he says it doesint flow with the car, and is not cool like his "soo original" turboII mirrors (nothing against the TII mirrors, i like them also, but i rather have these)

those dont look too street legal. you can find mirrors like that for typical formula racing. most any class i'd think, not just F1.

87base RX-7 03-21-04 02:46 PM

the jgtc is a racing series in japan with too classes (that i know of there could be more) the 300 and 500 hp class with skylinessupras nsx couple porches its real sweet (super street does rite ups on there big races) and yea they do have a formula look too them though heck maybe u know better than me and theres a f1 in the jgtc who knows

The stock JDM mirrors are bigger than the US ones, and both sides have convex mirrors. They give fantastic rearward vision because they cover such a huge area. I personally think they look fine, and certainly wouldn't sacrifice the extra safety they offer to fit smaller ones, particularly those ridiculous little "racing" mirrors. :)

GEINN FC3S 03-21-04 05:38 PM

i like em they look sweet, most jap cars got fold backs because all their parking spaces are verry narrow because of the population down there, the fack like rabbits, day n night i tell ya. =)

Liquid Anarchy 03-21-04 05:50 PM

Are those mirrors electric or Manual?

LI FC Greg 03-21-04 06:03 PM

The US never got any folding mirrors on the FC. We did have 3 styles of mirrors though, the 86-88 solid, the 86-88 aero (with the hole) and the 89-91 aero with the hole that was smoother.

I love the look of the JDM mirrors and would love to have them on my 89 FC. The glass area is larger making them more useful and they fold which is very helpful in a one car garage.

Does anyone import/sell the JDM mirrors?

We do get both versions, electric and manual. Just mechanism inside is different, outside they are same, both foldable.

Liquid Anarchy 03-21-04 06:54 PM

I'd be interested in a set of manual mirrors, for trade for a good set of S5 Electric Aero's

i dont get that. the mirror is nothin. ya gotta open your door. how's the mirror folding in help?

GEINN FC3S 03-21-04 08:54 PM

use ur imagintion =)

casio 03-21-04 09:03 PM

its all so clear now!!!
...no, wait... climbing out the trunk? i seriously dont see how it helps. anyone care to fill in an ignorant soul?

BDoty311 03-21-04 09:08 PM

Well I suppose its more common to bump something with your mirrors while driving in a highly congested area.

casio 03-21-04 09:10 PM

right, but i was going by the key term "parking." i understand it for driving through extremely narrow places, but not parking. i assume the japanese dont climb out their sunroofs and trunks. but hey, they didnt come up with the term 'culture shock' for nothin.

GEINN FC3S 03-21-04 09:21 PM

i dont know for sure, but if u ever meet the guy who invented folding mirrors, tell him i said "hi" and ask "how are the wife and kids?" OKAY???? ...............lol

NZConvertible 03-21-04 09:26 PM

Most cars in Japan these days actually have powered folding mirrors. Flip a switch on the dash and they fold in. As mentioned, it's to stop people whacking them in tight car parks. :)

casio 03-21-04 09:29 PM

yea, i remember the electric ones because i could have gotten them for my integra. i believe type-r's had them, but i'm not sure. i just think the door would get wacked before the mirror. unless it was someone walkin by.
if i had them, i would rig them to the ignition (somehow) where they'd automatically fold in when i shut the car off. haha. yes! ricer mod. :) i'd do it.

GEINN FC3S 03-21-04 09:30 PM

yah, cuz to reach over to the passenger side and manually try to fold it would be a bitch all in the same time trying to park ur car without hittin the facker next to you.

totallimmortal 03-21-04 10:47 PM

Com'n it makes perfect sense why they fold they stick out farther than anything else on the car. If something is gonna get hit they will be first, another thing i like about em is if the get hit from the right direction the just fold back instead of breaking

scrapp 03-21-04 11:39 PM

well one day i wanna order a pair, i like the way they look, i think they flow well with the car

casio 03-21-04 11:46 PM

except the fact that i was referring to parking. as far as parking and getting out of your car, the mirrors are the least of my concern. i'm worried about hittin someone elses car with my bumper and door getting out. as far as driving between vehicles, sure, makes sense.
parking<< >>driving
i, in my question, was referring to parking.

scrapp 03-21-04 11:51 PM

if every car has lambo doors, we wouldint have to worry about door dings.....untill the "modders" started making those crazy sideways fold out doors....

casio 03-22-04 12:21 AM

i'm sayin ! see, now this man is thinkin. mirrors would fold in, then door would flip up.
also, was it GE that came up with that material thats scratch proof? or was that commercial a giant joke? seemed cool.

i have a set of JDM mirrors on my car. I think they look way better than my S4 TII mirrors. I can take pictures tomorrow. I'll be seeing my car again because I need to put the new RE-Amemiya wing on her.

ewww, I think base model S4 mirrors are nicer than the JDM folding ones...they are just so plain. TII mirrors ae nice...RE is nicest but they ae GARBAGE.

Kenseto 03-22-04 02:59 PM

yeah i like em a lot, do you know for about how much you can get a pair of those? (hates his solid S4 mirrors bleh)

ajsuper7 03-22-04 03:22 PM

they arnt too bad, i think id need to see them in person to make a decision. they would of saved me 150 bucks when i broke my solid mirror backing out of the garage

scrapp 03-22-04 03:38 PM

about $200

http://www.jt-imports.com/Mazda_FC_JDM_Parts.htm

KenshinFC 03-22-04 05:50 PM

remember that there's no such thing as stall parking in Japan (ok, that's an exaggeration, but there's very little stall parking). It's all parallel parking in REALLY tight streets. People who drive in Asian countries are used to driving in tight spaces. In hong kong I went down a street that's just wide enough for 3 lanes of cars. Equivalent to 3 stall parking spaces wide. I drove down the middle while there were cars to the left and right of me parked bumper to bumper all the way down the street, if they hadn't folded their mirrors in, i would've been in an even tighter position. trust me, the folding mirrors help a lot!

hIGGI 03-23-04 03:11 AM

but these FC mirrors are foldable only in event of accidend, u could fold them but they will not stay folded, spring will bring them back...

Gen2 03-23-04 03:53 AM

I;ve been looking for those mirrors.. i would trade my 91 t2 mirrors for those..:D *hint hint*
