Interesting porting question

So i was talking to a friend today about porting and other stuff and he said he has seen or heard about people that instead of opening the intake port, what they have done instead is drill holes next to the intake port. of course without touching the seal.

who has done this or heard about it. is it better than the porting made by everyone else?

what do you think about this??

just like swiss cheese? the more holes the better it tastes LOL

schaft 12-16-11 10:07 PM

Sounds interesting but I think it might cause more turbulence then any thing due to the sharp edges of the holes.

cheese ports don't flow, so no it's just a waste of some good usable irons.

i was thinking about something like the pic attached ↓↓↓

just a couple of holes, more or less. drilled and a smooth surface to prevent side seals from damaging

look up "cheese port" and see the responses.

here's the first one i found.

swiss cheese taste like poop no matter what way u look at it to me, all about that munster cheese myself, get it (monster port) damm im so lame, but yeah a simple street port is all u need unless you plan on trackin the hell out of the car and need the edge of a bigger port over the compition and there lame piston motors idk

Im not doing it but sounded good when i heard about it thats all

By "sounded good" did you really mean "sounded easy"?

If so, I can understand the attraction.

This thread has dragged the IQ of rotary owners down nationwide by over 10 points. Congrats.

its called a half done bridge port..

RW-7 12-19-11 12:06 AM

IIRC Some racers used to do this to get around the rules of bridge porting and avoid being bumped up a class.

I dont think is easy to do it because you have to drill it. I will stick with the regular porting everyone else do. End of story

oh it's very easy to do.. i have to do it prior to actually doing a real bridge. the drilling takes about 10 minutes tops, each bridge port itself takes about 3-4 hours.

stevensimon 12-19-11 12:34 PM

my understanding is that it gives the lopey idle of a bridgie but with no actual gains.

RotaryEvolution 12-19-11 12:41 PM

yes, and ebay sells whistles that sound like a turbo as well.

pretty soon everyone can have turbo cars with huge "cams".

don't forget, your gas mileage goes to shit with any auxiliary bridge also.

I know of one FD with a claimed HBP done by a 'reputable' shop and upon teardown he had three or four holes drilled next to each secondary port.....
