INstalled my new steering wheel Nardi/personal Grinta
So i got my new hub today and it took some work to make it work properly.
I had to use my drill press (read: a hand drill with the hub squezed between my knees) to make 2 new holes for the power steering/turn signal sensor thingy... It fits quite well and feels really nice... The steering feels stiffer so I'm not sure if my power steering is working properly or if it's just less torqe from a smaller wheel... But we will see. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9...L/IMG_1224.jpg |
wow thats nice did you have a hard time pulling the old steering wheel out?
I'm installing mine soon, with sparco. :) let me know any hint to make things easier. thanks. |
looks nice!

+ 1 for the red stitching
|
wow that wheel's shape is just like the stock s4 wheel. (the bumps at 10 and 2)
|
thats badass there! very nice upgrade. I just upgraded myself to a Nardi wheel and I love it. It was on an R33 Skyline and I was like "must have that" pedals came off of it as well. They are Razo.

i bought the Tekniq Snap off quick relelease with momo champion wheel, havent got a chance to install anything else but the hub
|
I got that wheel for 100 bucks :)
The hub I got from a website called autoz concept here is the link to the hub: http://www.autozconcept.com/product_...roducts_id=675 For 12 bucks you can't complain. The hub has dual bolt patterns because i think there are 2 different styles of holes for wheels (one more spread out than the other. kinda like wheels are 5x100 and 5x114.3) Because the Rx7 has those pins that need to sit in holes in the back of the wheel only one set of holes lines up to make the wheel sit straight. I had to drill new holes a little off set on the back of the hub to make it work properly but it was easy to do with just a hand drill so i'm happy. |
thats a good deal :)

thanks and hope your project is going well. :) |
Oh the other think i liked about this hub was how slim it was. Many other hubs i saw were very long and would make hitting the turn signal difficult while keeping both hands on the wheel. This one is probably only about 2.5 inches so i can hit the controlls easily!

|

I have that same wheel but I think there may be something wrong w/ the hub because no matter how many times I tried to adjust it, its slightly off. If the car is traveling straight the while is turned slightly to the right.
I've almost gotten used to it now, but I was wondering if a different hub would solve my problem? maybe an alignment? |
^its called an alignment.
|
well i dunno about that. I mean the spline only has so many notches and if one doesn't line up perfectly the wheel wont sit straight. Mine is a little crooked when traveling straight so I am gonna try turnbing it a bit but if it doesn't work then it wont bother me too much.
|
what size is your wheel? i have the same one uninstalled. looks great on your car!
|
I have a 330mm is that small or fine or perfect?

If your alignment is OK and you don't want to screw with it, don't forget you have a splined connection at the steering rack where the column joins. Maybe a change there along with a shift of the wheel will make it sit straight. |
I think it's 330 but i'm not 100% sure... would it be marked on it somewhere?

please install your wheels dead center then align your vehicle. lock to lock i believe from memory is...
full lock left the wheel should be around 4-5... full lock right should be 7-8... it may be reveresed, but my memory tells me this.. i think this is a good idea. your rack should be dead center this way when you align it. |
were did u get that steering wheel from?
|
I got mine off of a local honda forum actually but on line i think passwordjdm.com has them http://passwordjdm.com/Personal-Grin...P1927C368.aspx

Word. I have a Personal Nardi as well. Mine is on a momo hub, sparco spacer and a quick release though. The reason it feels all weird is cause you got a crappy hub. spend the $70 and get the real momo 5705 hub. that cheap hub will work fine on a FB3 and a NA3 but it doesn't have the needed spacer for a FC3.

I have a brand new one for $180 shipped if you're interested. |
If you get a new steering wheel, you should get a spacer (unless you're uber-short)...
It lets you see your gauges again, and be in the correct position. |
do we really have to torque the bolt to 35? what if i just have a socket wrench?
|
I bought a sparco hub with this becauae I don't like those cheap ebay ones and I don't trust them.

what i did is loosen the bolt enough but still on the shaft, than spray wd40 on the shaft where the wheel is stuck on. after that i used a torque wrench and banged the back of the wheel a few times each side till it got loose and pulled it out without hitting my face with the wheel. :icon16:
Rent a steering wheel puller from Autozone for free...or make your own like I did. Two bolts and a little piece of steel, run the bolts in to pull on the center of the wheel evenly, and then pop the spindle with a mallet. POW!!! |
thanks for another advice.
|
I installed the steering today with the sparco hub and the steering wheel. Unfortunately, I did follow all the insturction taking out the steering wheel with advice you guys gave me, but one thing I realize somethig is rubbing on the steering column, the hub seems to be to close to the steering column near the dash"hope someone know what I'm talking about" anyway so when i turn it sound like it is rubbing on to it. What can I do, am I missing something?
thanks in advance, the wheel felt little heavy too. |
installed the steering wheel plus the hub on the car but the hub is rubbing the column, any idea whats going on? thanks
|
Is it rubbing for sure? I noticed a rubbing sound but i think it might have been the springy thing that makes the horn have continuity. The stock wheel is all greesed up where the "thingy" comes in contact with it... I greased mine a bit and the sound is gone.

oh, but either way, i think the hub is for FB not FC because check this chart for the momo hub. http://www.shopmomo.com/hubadapterapp.html the 5702 look exactly alike the one I have but is for FB and 5705 is supposely be the one I need. 5705
this is mine http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/P1000483.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...1/P1000481.jpg here. http://www.shopmomo.com/5705.html |
