Ignition Timing and CAS
I'm in my garage trying to prepare to time my car and I can't find out how to take out the CAS. I have pages of the fsm with me for timing and also my Haynes manual. All I see is to simply remove the locknut and pull it straight out. I tried finding a locknut but the directions are not specific at all. I took off the CAS cover while reading something in another thread but I put it back on for now. Right now I just have the leading mark on the pulley matched up with the little metal pin.

The locknut is the nut you loosen to adjust the timing.
You need not remove the CAS (or anything else, for that matter) to adjust timing though. |

Time to be unconfused. Post #4, pic #4. You see how loosening the lock nut (it's on the outside of the CAS) allows you to rotate the CAS?

In the link shows there's a hole indent to match the sides but there's no markings anywhere on mine. I tried twisting the nut, pulling it up and twisting but I don't know how to loosen it. It isn't moving.

If the casing is not moving it is stuck,due to corrosion.
If you want to remove it and lube the casing so that you can adjust it,then you must tap the casing with "something" to get it out of the front cover.You will however have to restab the CAS when you do this. I've had success with putting a large screwdriver on it while under the car.,or swing a hammer at it with an upward motion on the casing to make it go upwards out of the front cover hole.It's a little bit of a pain in the ass but it works.You could also try to tap the "tong"(the one that the stud with the 10mm bolt goes through) on the cas to get it to move,back and forth.Careful you don't smash at it though. Once out just clean up the spot around the O ring and use a dab of axle grease or anti-sieze to make sure it stays "lubed. YOu can then get it out again or adjust it if you have to. |

Open ended , crescent, socket wrench.
I mean if you haven't loosened the lock nut then how do you know the CAS won't move? |
I'm just saying if I run into the possibility of it being stuck when I do loosen it. I'm not saying it is stuck. I was talking about that notch on top inside the cas under the top cover that I didn't know how to get it loose. That's what I was referring to being stuck

Ok nevermind what I said before. I thought everyone was referring to whats under the cover of the cas to be the locknut. Im in my garage and found the locknut under this little black plastic cap that I took off with a flathead screwdiver. Im good from here. Thanks for all the other information.
