Identification / Questions

Hello,

I need a little help once again.

I have a S5 TII engine going into a 87 base.

In pic #1 I need to identify what goes into these 2 holes. I know one is the oil pressure sending unit, but not sure what the other one is.

In pic #2 (S4 TII water pump housing) I am not sure what goes here. Is it the water temp sending unit. This is a different setup than my S4 NA.

Also when you put on the intake gaskets do you use RTV (blue or black)?

Thanx in advance for your help.

Michael

I can't see very clearly.

But in that area are the oil pressure sensor and the water temp sensor, I think.

It's a little plug with a clip on it for the wire to connect to.

I ran into another problem.

My enginie has 2 coolant passages and my LIM (see pics) only has one hole.

Is this right?

That explains why my LIM would not go on. I have taken it off and flipped it.

Thanx

water temp sensor, and the fan switch (you dont NEED this). btw your exhaust manifold is on backwards

I flipped it.

I'm almost sure the coolant passage is supposed to dead end there, by design... I know it seems weird.

But you might want to make sure someone that has hands on experience with your engine confirms that.

Btw is that RTV blue? I used way more than that! Maybe too much... *shrug*

1 is oil pressure sending unit. Thing is shapedlike a mushroom.
2 is water temp sensor for the interior gauge. Sensor is small, made of brass, and connects via a single male bullet connector.

Temp sensor to activate the electric fan on some mdoels. Most S4 N/A's didn't have the fan, so they didn't have the sensor. Sesnro is small, made of brass, and connect via a male terminal connection.

I use zero RTV on intake gaskets. I lubricate mine with synthetic grease for easy removal later (no more scraping them, and machine the mating surfaces of my intake manifolds to ensure they are flat. I use a small amount of hylomar to hold the o-rings in place.

Yes. Mazda didn't wanted to be able to interchange front and rear irons on the TII's, so they milled the whole in both the front and the rear rotor housings.

The hole on the rear iron feeds coolant through the intake manifold into the turbocharger, to cool it.

The hole in the front rotor housing is block off by a flat spot on the intake manifold. I usually tap this hole and install an NPT plug, and then leave the front o-ring off.

Make sure you install the two rubber o-rings in these holes, or you will get a leak.
